Bill Marsh (rugby League)
Bill Marsh (1929-2002) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s. A New South Wales interstate and Australia international representative forward, he played his club football in Sydney's NSWRFL Premiership for Balmain, who he also captained. Marsh started playing for Balmain in the NSWRFL Premiership's first grade in 1950. He was selected to play for the New South Wales team against France and Queensland in 1955. He also won an award for being the best Sydney footballer that year. After moving to Cootamundra as captain-coach in 1956, Marsh gained selection for the Country New South Wales team and then became Kangaroo No. 329 when he represented Australia on the 1956-57 Kangaroo tour, playing in Tests against Great Britain and France. Marsh returned to Balmain for the 1957 NSWRFL season and helped host country Australia to victory in the 1957 Rugby League World Cup tournament. The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARL), formerly the Australian Rugby Football League known as the Australian Rugby League is an Australian rugby league football competition operator. It was founded in 1986 as the Australian Rugby Football League Limited and succeeded the Australian Rugby Football League Board of Control which had been formed in 1924. Since its inception, the ARL has administered the Australian national team and represented Australia in international rugby league matters. Prior to 1998, the code in Australia had been principally administered by individual state leagues on a domestic basis, and the ARL on a national and international basis. Great Britain National Rugby League Team
The Great Britain national rugby league team represents Great Britain in rugby league. Administered by the Rugby Football League (RFL), the team is nicknamed The Lions. For most of the 20th century, the Great Britain team toured overseas, played against foreign touring teams and competed in the Rugby League World Cup, which they won three times: in 1954, 1960 and 1972. Since 1995, the RFL has sent separate home nations teams to the World Cup. Great Britain continued to compete as a Test playing nation both home and away. They competed against Australia for the Ashes, and New Zealand for the Baskerville Shield, as well the Tri-Nations series with both Australia and New Zealand. Great Britain also played in series and tours against France, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.
