Bertoldo, Bertoldino E Cacasenno
''Bertoldo, Bertoldino e Cacasenno'' (internationally released as ''Bertoldo, Bertoldino, and Cascacenno'') is a 1984 Italian comedy film directed by Mario Monicelli. The crude but world-savvy peasant Bertoldo is invited to the court of the Longobard King Alboin, and manages to ingratiate himself with the sovereign through his wit and pranks. Returning to his small village from the naive wife Marcolfa and the retarded son Bertoldino, the farmer Bertoldo finds out that they fell victim of a Fra Cipolla from Frosolone, a swindler monk (Alberto Sordi) who sells fake relics. He sets to recover his property and take vengeance of the monk, with whom ultimately a truce and friendship begins. Mario Alberto Ettore Monicelli (; 16 May 1915 – 29 November 2010) was an Italian film director and screenwriter and one of the masters of the '' Commedia all'Italiana'' (Comedy Italian style). He was nominated six times for an Oscar, and was awarded the Golden Lion for his career. Alboin
Alboin (530s – 28 June 572) was king of the Lombards from about 560 until 572. During his reign the Lombards ended their migrations by settling in Italy, the northern part of which Alboin conquered between 569 and 572. He had a lasting effect on Italy and the Pannonian Basin; in the former his invasion marked the beginning of centuries of Lombard rule, and in the latter his defeat of the Gepids and his departure from Pannonia ended the dominance there of the Germanic peoples. The period of Alboin's reign as king in Pannonia following the death of his father, Audoin, was one of confrontation and conflict between the Lombards and their main neighbors, the Gepids.
