Berkeley Bell
Richard Berkeley Bell (November 8, 1907 – June 15, 1967) was an American male tennis player who ranked No. 7 among the U.S. amateurs in 1934. He twice reached the final of the men's doubles competition at the U.S. National Championships (now US Open). In 1929 he partnered with Lewis White and lost the final in four sets against George Lott and John Doeg. Two years later, in 1931, he teamed up with Gregory Mangin and lost to John Van Ryn and Wilmer Allison in three straight sets. His best singles performance came in 1931 when he reached the quarterfinals at the U.S. National Championships but lost in three straight sets to Fred Perry. Bell won the Seabright Invitational in 1934. The Venerable (Ronald) Berkeley Cole (1913–1996) was an eminent Anglican priest and author in the first half of the mid 20th century. After an earlier career as a Registrar with the London County Freehold and Leasehold Properties Ltd he was ordained in 1943. He began his career with a curacy in Braunstone after which he was Succentor of Leicester Cathedral. He was Vicar of St Philip, Leicester from 1950 to 1973. Berkeley "Bert" Lionel Scudamore Dallard (27 August 1889 – 5 September 1983) was a New Zealand accountant, senior public servant and prison administrator. Biography Early life He was born in Christchurch, New Zealand on 27 August 1889, and attended Rangiora High School. He completed a junior civil service examination and in 1907 became a cadet in the Stamp Department in Wellington. He would later attend Victoria University and qualified as an accountant. By 1924 he had progressed to the position of inspector in the Office of the Public Service Commissioner. In 1926 Dallard became New Zealand's controller-general of prisons, retaining this title until 1933, when he was appointed as an under-secretary to the Department of Justice. Berkeley Bertram McGarrell Gaskin (21 March 1908 - 2 May 1979) was a West Indian cricketer and administrator who played in two Tests in 1947-48. Gaskin played first-class cricket as a medium-pace bowler and lower-order batsman for British Guiana from 1929 to 1953, captaining the side from 1950–51 to 1952–53. His best bowling figures were 7 for 58 against Jamaica in 1950–51. He managed the West Indies side on three overseas tours: to India and Pakistan in 1958–59, to England in 1963, and to Australia and New Zealand in 1968–69. Berkeley Guise
Sir Berkeley William Guise, 2nd Baronet (14 July 1775 – 23 July 1834) of Highnam Court in the parish of Churcham, Gloucestershire, was a British landowner and Whig Member of Parliament. Origins He was the eldest son of Sir John Guise, 1st Baronet (1733–1794), of Highnam Court, whom he succeeded in 1794, inheriting Highnam Court. He also inherited the Gloucestershire estates of Elmore Court, the original seat of the Guise family, and Rendcomb, on the death in 1807 of his cousin Jane Guise, wife of Shute Barrington (1734-1826), Bishop of Durham. Career He was educated at Eton College (1791) and at Christ Church, Oxford (1794). In 1801 he was appointed verderer and deputy warden of the Forest of Dean, which office he retained until his death. Berkeley "Bud" Lent (September 22, 1921 – November 11, 2007) was an American politician and jurist in the state of Oregon. He was the 38th Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court, serving from 1982 to 1983. Elected to the court in 1976, Lent remained until 1988. Previously, the native Oregonian also was elected to both branches of the Oregon legislature, including time as the Senate Majority Leader, and was a county circuit court judge. Berkeley John Talbot Levett, (11 November 1863 – 1 November 1941) was a Major in the Scots Guards and later a Gentleman Usher for the Royal family. He was a witness in the Royal Baccarat Scandal of 1890 in which the future King Edward VII was drawn into a gambling dispute which painted him in an unflattering light. Berkeley Deane Wise (2 October 1855, New Ross – 5 May 1909, Portrush) was an Irish civil engineer who made a significant impact on the development of railways and tourism, particularly in Northern Ireland. Early years Berkeley Deane Wise was born on 2 October 1855 in Berkeley Forest, New Ross, County Wexford, the son of James Lawrence Wise, solicitor, and Elizabeth Deane.
