Belarusian Music
Belarus is an Eastern European country with a rich tradition of folk and religious music. The country's folk music traditions can be traced back to the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The country's musical traditions spread with its people to countries like Russia, Canada, United States, Kazakhstan and Latvia. The people of Belarus were exposed mostly to Russian pop music during this period and also after independence in 1991. In 2002, however, President Alexander Lukashenko has signed a decree requiring 50% of all FM broadcast music to be Belarusian in origin, and since 1 January 2005 the rule has been even stricter (75% of music broadcast each day must be Belarusian). However, it does not regulate the language of the songs, so most of the music which is broadcast is still in Russian. Documentation of its music stretches back to at least the 15th century. Boris Moiseev
Boris Mikhailovich Moiseev (russian: link=no, Бори́с Миха́йлович Моисе́ев; 4 March 1954 – 27 September 2022) was a Soviet and Russian singer, choreographer, dancer, writer, actor, head of a dance group, and author of popular shows in Russia. He was a Merited Artist of Russia (2006). Early life Boris Moiseev was born in prison in Mogilev, Byelorussian SSR, Soviet Union, his mother was being held as a disenfranchised element during the communist regime. He spent his childhood and teenage years among his Lithuanian Jewish aunts in Mogilev. To strengthen his health, Boris was sent to a dancing school. Since then dancing took over all his interests and turned into a lifetime passion. He dropped out of the school, packed his bags and ran away to Minsk. RIA Novosti (russian: РИА Новости), sometimes referred to as RIAN () or RIA (russian: РИА, label=none) is a Russian state-owned domestic news agency. On 9 December 2013 by a decree of Vladimir Putin it was liquidated and its assets and workforce were transferred to the newly created Rossiya Segodnya agency. On 8 April 2014 RIA Novosti was registered as part of the new agency. RIA Novosti is headquartered in Moscow. The chief editor is Anna Gavrilova. Content RIA Novosti was scheduled to be closed down in 2014; starting in March 2014, staff were informed that they had the option of transferring their contracts to Rossiya Segodnya or sign a redundancy contract. Vladimir Georgievich Mulyavin (russian: Влади́мир Гео́ргиевич Муля́вин; be, Уладзімер Георгіевіч Мулявін (Uladzimer Heorhijevič Muliavin); 12 January 1941 – 26 January 2003) was a Belarusian and Russian rock musician and the founder of the folk-rock band Pesniary. Biography Vladimir Mulyavin was born in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) in the family of a worker at the Uralmash plant. He started playing the guitar at the age of 12. In 1956, after graduating from school, he entered Sverdlovsk Musical School, department of stringed instruments. He was expelled from the school for misconduct and an overt interest in jazz, nevertheless he was reinstated after some time, and he left the school by own initiative. Pesniary
Pesniary (also spelled Pesnyary, be, Песняры, ) was a popular Soviet Belarusian folk rock VIA. It was founded in 1969 by guitarist Vladimir Mulyavin. Before 1970, the band was known under the name Liavony (Лявоны). Style Pesniary combined various types of music, but mostly Belarusian folklore though often with various rock elements and later rock as well. Several of Pesniary's songs were composed by Aleksandra Pakhmutova. The surprising influence of early Frank Zappa was also notable. Biography Pesniary was one of the very few Soviet bands (and possibly the first one) to tour in America in 1976. They toured the American South with folk band The New Christy Minstrels. Soviet Music
The music of the Soviet Union varied in many genres and epochs. The majority of it was considered to be part of the Russian culture, but other national cultures from the Republics of the Soviet Union made significant contributions as well. The Soviet state supported musical institutions, but also carried out content censorship.
