''Battle of Warsaw 1920'' (''pol. Bitwa warszawska 1920'') is a Polish historical film directed by Jerzy Hoffman depicting the events of the Battle of Warsaw (1920) of the Polish–Soviet War. It was released in September 2011. It was filmed in 3D using the Fusion Camera System and is one of the most expensive movies in the history of cinema in Poland. Plot 1920. After regaining independence, Poland is now seeking to stabilize the situation on the border. Marshal Józef Piłsudski (Daniel Olbrychski) wants to create federations of independent states in the east. Polish authorities announce mobilization. Jerzy Hoffman
Jerzy Julian Hoffman (; born 15 March 1932) is a Polish director, screenwriter, and producer. He received the Polish Academy Life Achievement Award in February 2006. Hoffman is best known for his works in '' The Deluge'' (1974) and ''With Fire and Sword'' (1999), the former of which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His other notable credits were in '' Three Steps on Earth'' (1965) and ''Colonel Wolodyjowski'' (1969). Bolesław Ignacy Florian Wieniawa-Długoszowski (22 July 1881 – 1 July 1942) was a Polish general, adjutant to Chief of State Józef Piłsudski, politician, freemason, diplomat, poet, artist and formally for one day the President of the Republic of Poland. Maxime Weygand
Maxime Weygand (; 21 January 1867 – 28 January 1965) was a French military commander in World War I and World War II. Born in Belgium, Weygand was raised in France and educated at the Saint-Cyr military academy in Paris. After graduating in 1887, he went on to become an instructor at the Cavalry School at Saumur. During World War I, Weygand served as a staff officer to General (later Marshal) Ferdinand Foch. He then served as an advisor to Poland in the Polish–Soviet War and later High Commissioner of the Levant. In 1931, Weygand was appointed Chief of Staff of the French Army, a position he served until his retirement in 1935 at the age of 68. Wojciech Zygmunt Pszoniak (2 May 1942 – 19 October 2020) was a Polish film and theatre actor. Biography and career Pszoniak was born in Lwów, Nazi occupied Poland, now in Ukraine. He gained international visibility following Andrzej Wajda's 1975 film '' The Promised Land'', in which he played Moritz, one of the three main characters. The actor left Poland during the period of political unrest in 1980–81, when the Solidarity trade union began and was ended by the imposition of martial law on 13 December 1981. Pszoniak found roles in France, where he was living and working. After the fall of communism in Eastern Europe in 1989, Pszoniak appeared in Polish movies and plays. Wincenty Witos
Wincenty Witos (; 22 January 1874 – 31 October 1945) was a Polish politician, prominent member and leader of the Polish People's Party (PSL), who served three times as the Prime Minister of Poland in the 1920s. He was a member of the Polish People's Party from 1895, and the leader of its "Piast" faction from 1913. He was a member of parliament in the Galician Sejm from 1908–1914, and an envoy to '' Reichsrat'' in Vienna from 1911 to 1918. Andrzej Strzelecki
Andrzej Tadeusz Strzelecki (4 February 1952 – 17 July 2020), was a Polish actor, satirist, theatre director, screenplay writer and rector of the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw in the years 2008–2016. In 1974 he graduated from the Acting Department of the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw, and in 1978 from the Directing Department. He played on stage in the Variety Theatre (1974–1981) and the Rampa Theatre (1987–1997) in Warsaw. As a TV announcer, he has hosted a number of programs for Telewizja Polska. Andrzej Strzelecki was awarded many times for his film and theatrical roles as well as for directorial work. As an actor, he also played in television series. Ignacy Skorupka
Ignacy Skorupka (31 July 1893 – 14 August 1920) was a Polish priest, chaplain of the Polish Army. He died during the battle of Warsaw. He became one of the most famous casualties of the battle. Biography Ignacy Jan Skorupka was born on 31 July 1893 in Warsaw. He studied at the seminary in St. Petersburg. In 1916 he took his Holy Orders, and in 1918 he was briefly a parish priest in the Russian Empire. In the chaotic times of the first stages of the Polish–Soviet War in 1918, he became one of the Polish regional leaders in the Kresy borderlands. Józef Haller von Hallenburg (13 August 1873 – 4 June 1960) was a lieutenant general of the Polish Army, a legionary in the Polish Legions, harcmistrz (the highest Scouting instructor rank in Poland), the president of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association (ZHP), and a political and social activist. He was the cousin of Stanisław Haller. Haller was born in Jurczyce. Jacek Poniedziałek (born 6 August 1965, Kraków) is a Polish film, theatre and television actor as well as a theatre director and translator. Life and career He was born on 6 August 1965 in Kraków and grew up in the city's Olsza II District. In 1990, he graduated from the National Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków.
