Banyuwangi, previously known as Banjoewangi, is a large town and an administrative district (''kecamat5an'') which serves as the capital of Banyuwangi Regency at the far eastern end of the island of Java, Indonesia. It had a population of 106,000 at the 2010 census and 117,558 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2024 was 121,500. The town extends beyond the district limits to includes substantial parts of neighbouring districts; at the 1990 Census the population of the extended town was 345,861. The town is also known as ''city of festival'' as many festivals are held throughout the year. Banyuwangi Regency is a tourist destination, and additional developments have been proposed to encourage international tourism by building necessary infrastructures. Banyuwangi Regency (, ) is a Regency (Indonesia), regency of East Java province in Indonesia. This regency also known as ''the sun rise of Java'' because it is located at the easternmost end of Java (island), Java Island. The town of Banyuwangi serves as a port for ferry services between Java and Bali. The regency is surrounded by mountains and forests to the west; by sea to the east and south - is separated by the Strait of Bali from Bali. Banyuwangi Airport
Banyuwangi Airport , formerly Blimbingsari Airport, is a domestic airport serving the town of Banyuwangi, the capital of Banyuwangi Regency in East Java, Indonesia. It is located approximately 12 km (7.5 miles) from the town center. The airport serves as one of the main points of entry to Banyuwangi, the eastern part of East Java, and the western region of Bali. It also provides access to nearby tourist destinations such as the Ijen volcano complex and Alas Purwo National Park. Currently, the airport operates only flights to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. It previously offered flights to Denpasar, Surabaya, as well as international services to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Kingdom Of Blambangan
The Blambangan Kingdom ( Indonesian: ''Kerajaan Blambangan'', Javanese: ꦑꦼꦫꦗꦲꦤ꧀ꦨ꧀ꦭꦩ꧀ꦧꦔꦤ꧀) was the last Javanese Hindu kingdom that flourished between the 15th and 18th centuries, based in the eastern corner of Java. The capital was at Banyuwangi. It had a long history of its own, developing contemporaneously with the largest Hindu kingdom in Java, Majapahit (1293–1527). At the time of the collapse of Majapahit in the late fifteenth century, Blambangan stood on its own as the one solitary Hindu state left in Java, controlling the larger part of Java’s Oosthoek. Bali Strait is a stretch of water separating Java and Bali while connecting the Indian Ocean and the Bali Sea. At its narrowest it is wide.
