Baie Verte Peninsula
The Baie Verte Peninsula is a large peninsula on the north central coast of the island of Newfoundland in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Baie Verte Peninsula is a geologically complex area on the northwest coast of Newfoundland. The region is composed of multiple geological domains and has undergone extensive tectonic activity, uplift, and deformation, producing multiple unconformity surfaces. In addition, multiple phases of intrusion, some with volcanic cover sequences, add to the complexity of the geological model. The peninsula is home to many communities, the largest is Baie Verte where it gets its name. The Rambler area, of the Baie Verte Peninsula, has a long history of mineral exploration dating back to 1903 when local prospector Enos England first discovered the ‘England Vein’. Baie Verte, Newfoundland And Labrador
Baie Verte ( 2021 Population 1,311) is a town located on the north coast of the island portion of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador on the Baie Verte Peninsula. The French named the area for its greenness, "green bay." Geography Baie Verte is one of 42 communities that make up the Emerald Zone which is located in the North Central portion of Newfoundland. Baie Verte dates to the late 19th century, but remained a small village until the discovery of asbestos and other ore bodies of copper, lead, zinc and gold in the mid-1950s when the town underwent major expansion. Bowering Brother's steamers called in the area in the 1950s to transport the ore found here. It became a town in 1968. Newfoundland And Labrador Route 410
Route 410, also known as Dorset Trail, is an north-south highway on the northern coast of Newfoundland in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It leads from Sheppardville, at Route 1 (Trans-Canada Highway), to a dead end in Fleur de Lys, Newfoundland and Labrador. Route 410 serves as the primary roadway access on-and-off the Baie Verte Peninsula. Baie Verte is the most populous community along the route. In 2022, Route 410 was voted the Worst Road in Atlantic Canada by the Canadian Automobile Association's Worst Roads list. Route description Route 410 begins in Sheppardville at an intersection with Route 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) and it heads north to cross the Indian River and wind its way through rural hilly terrain for several kilometres.
