Brookhaven Landfill Action And Remediation Group
The Brookhaven Landfill Action and Remediation Group (BLARG) is a New York based grassroots environmental justice organization, that advocates for the closure and remediation of the 140-acre Brookhaven Landfill. The group cites the landfill's negative environmental impact and placement within a predominantly black and Latino neighbourhood as reasons for its closeure. North Bellport reportedly has the lowest life expectancy on Long Island and the second-highest rate of asthma in Suffolk County, a statistic that BLARG largely attributes to the town's proximity to the landfill. Brookhaven is a large Suburb, suburban town in Suffolk County, New York, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York (state), New York. A waste-to-energy plant is a waste management facility that combusts wastes to produce electricity. This type of power plant is sometimes called a trash-to-energy, municipal waste incineration, energy recovery, or resource recovery plant.
