Botcon
BotCon, briefly known as "The Official Transformers Collectors' Convention" (or OTFCC), is an annual convention for Transformers fans and collectors. BotCon has been held annually since 1994. BotCon is a syllabic abbreviation for "Robot Convention" but also refers to "Autobot" and " Decepticon", the protagonist and antagonist robot factions in the many continuities in the Transformers franchise. Featured BotCon guests are usually involved in the creation of Transformers media in some respect, whether as voice actors from the animated series, artists or writers from the comic books, or actual Hasbro employees. Fun Publications has held the convention for a number of years, with 2016 being its final year. It was replaced by the now defunct HasCon, Hasbro's own convention, in 2017. Transformers (toy Line)
The is a line of mecha toys produced by Japanese company Takara (now known as Takara Tomy) and American toy company Hasbro. Initially a line of transforming mecha toys rebranded from Takara's ''Diaclone'' and ''Micro Change'' toy lines, it spawned the ''Transformers'' media franchise. The premise behind the ''Transformers'' toy line is that an individual toy's parts can be shifted about to change it from a vehicle, a device, or an animal, to a robot action figure and back again. The franchise's taglines, "More Than Meets the Eye" and "Robots in Disguise", reflect this ability. Dinobot (Beast Wars)
is a fictional character from ''Beast Wars'' in the ''Transformers'' universe. He debuted in the series premiere as a subordinate of Megatron, leader of the villainous Predacons. However, Dinobot challenges Megatron's leadership, and is shortly expelled from his crew. He eventually joins the ranks of Optimus Primal and the Maximals. He is driven by a code of honor somewhat modeled on samurai bushido. He fights alongside the Maximals as part of their crew before ultimately sacrificing himself to save a group of primates from a Predacon onslaught. In the following season, Megatron creates a new Dinobot with transmetal technology, who is completely loyal to Megatron. Outside of the television series, Dinobot's likeness was used to create several toys. Fun Publications
Fun Publications was a publishing company that ran the Transformers Collectors Club and the G.I. Joe Collectors Club under license from Hasbro. Besides releasing comics, Fun Publications released exclusive toys and ran conventions for their clubs. Fun Publications also published a serial comic distributed as part of the official Transformer's Collector's Club magazine. There were six pages to the comic in each magazine, which together "make one complete story arc" by the end of the year with 36 pages in six months. The full strips from the first two years were distributed by IDW as ''Transformers Cybertron: Balancing Act''. In addition to releasing comic books and magazines Fun Publications ''Timelines'' series has also produced prose stories, licensed toys and video media. Transformers (comics)
There have been three main publishers of the comic book series bearing the name ''Transformers'' based on the toy lines of the same name. The first series was produced by Marvel Comics from 1984 to 1991, which ran for 80 issues and produced four spin-off miniseries. This was followed by a second volume titled ''Transformers: Generation 2'', which ran for 12 issues starting in 1993. The second major series was produced by Dreamwave Productions from 2002 to 2004 with multiple limited series as well, and within multiple story continuities, until the company became bankrupt in 2005. The third and fourth series have been published by IDW Publishing with the third series starting with an issue #0 in October 2005 and a regular series starting in January 2006 to November 2018.
