Willie O'Neill (Wexford Hurler)
William O'Neill (born 1945) is an Irish retired hurler who played as left corner-back for the Wexford senior team. Born in Kilmore, County Wexford, O'Neill first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when he first linked up with the Limerick under-21 team. He made his senior debut during the 1965 championship. O'Neill immediately became a regular member of the team and won one Leinster medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level O'Neill played with Kilmore-Rathangan. Throughout his career O'Neill made 5 championship appearances. He retired from inter-county hurling following the conclusion of the 1967 championship. Playing career Inter-county O'Neill joined the Wexford under-21 team as captain in 1965. A 7-9 to 1-5 trouncing of Dublin gave him his first Leinster medal in that grade. William O'Neill, 1st Baron O'Neill
Reverend William O'Neill, 1st Baron O'Neill (4 March 1813 – 18 April 1883), was an Anglo-Irish hereditary peer, clergyman and musical composer. Born William Chichester, he changed his surname to O'Neill in 1855. Background and education The eldest son of Reverend Edward Chichester, he was a member of the prominent Irish Chichester family headed by the Marquess of Donegall. He was the great-great-great-grandson of John Chichester, grandson of Edward Chichester, 1st Viscount Chichester, and younger brother of Arthur Chichester, 2nd Earl of Donegall. O'Neill was educated at Foyle College, Derry, Shrewsbury School and Trinity College Dublin, and was ordained in 1837. Career He was a prominent church organist and composer of church music, glees and songs. Buckey O'Neill
William Owen "Buckey" O'Neill (February 2, 1860 – July 1, 1898) was a sheriff, newspaper editor, miner, politician, Georgist, gambler and lawyer, mainly in Arizona. His nickname came from his tendency to "buck the tiger" (play contrary to the odds) at faro or other card games. He later became a captain in Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders, and died in battle. Early life O'Neill was born the first of four children on February 2, 1860, to John Owen and Mary (McMenimin) O'Neill in St. Louis, Missouri. His father was an Irish immigrant who had most likely arrived in the United States during the 1850s. By Spring 1862, the family had moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When the American Civil War began the elder O'Neill joined the 116th Pennsylvania Volunteers. 'Willie O'Neill (30 December 1940 – 28 April 2011) was a Scottish Association football, footballer who played for Celtic and Carlisle United as a full-back. Willie was a member of the famous 'Lisbon Lions' Celtic team who became the first British club to win the European Cup in 1967. Career O'Neill signed for Celtic in 1959, aged 18, and made his debut in the 1961 Scottish Cup Final replay against Dunfermline. Although O'Neill did not play in Celtic's victory in the 1967 European Cup Final, he was an important member of the first team squad, making 32 appearances in the 1966–67 season. Many of those came during the first few months of the campaign (including the 1966 Scottish League Cup Final) as Jim Craig had temporarily dropped out of the team due to his dentistry studies.
