Bert Parks
Bert Parks (born Bertram Jacobson; December 30, 1914 – February 2, 1992) was an American actor, singer, and radio and television announcer, best known for hosting the annual Miss America telecast from 1955 to 1979. Early life Parks was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Aaron Jacobson, a Jewish merchant who had immigrated to the United States in 1900 from Latvia (then part of the Russian Empire), and his wife Hattie (Spiegel) Jacobson, the daughter of immigrants from Austria-Hungary.US Census 1930, Atlanta, GA, Supervisor's District 4, Sheer 24A. Marjorie Judith Vincent is an American journalist and former beauty contestant who was crowned Miss America 1991. Early life and education Vincent's parents, Lucien and Florence Vincent of Cap-Haïtien, Haiti, migrated to the United States in the early 1960s; Marjorie was the first of their children to be born in the United States. She grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, attending Catholic school and taking ballet and piano lessons. Gary Ennis Collins (April 30, 1938 – October 13, 2012) was an American actor and television host. Throughout his career, he won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1984 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1985. Early life and education Collins was born in Venice, California. He was raised there by a single mother, who was a waitress and factory worker. Collins attended Venice High School and graduated with the class of 1955. ''The Tonight Show'' is an American late-night talk show that has been broadcast on NBC since 1954. The program has been hosted by six comedians: Steve Allen (1954–1957), Jack Paar (1957–1962), Johnny Carson (1962–1992), Jay Leno (1992–2009 and 2010–2014), Conan O'Brien (2009–2010), and Jimmy Fallon (2014–present). "There She Is, Miss America" is a song written by songwriter Bernie Wayne for the Miss America pageant. It was first made famous in 1955 by master of ceremonies Bert Parks, who sang it every year until his firing in 1979. The song is sometimes referred to as "There She Is" or simply "Miss America." History Bernie Wayne wrote "There She Is" in 1954 (while getting a haircut) for a show that aired on The Philco Television Playhouse called "The Miss America Story", starring Lee Meriwether and Johnny Desmond. Desmond introduced the song when Meriwether won the pageant. ''Hollywood Squares'' (originally ''The Hollywood Squares'', later stylized as ''H2: Hollywood Squares'') is an American game show in which two contestants compete in a game of tic-tac-toe to win cash and prizes. The show originally aired as a pilot on NBC in 1965, and debuted on NBC as a regular series in October 1966. The board for the game is a 3 × 3 vertical stack of open-faced cubes, each occupied by a celebrity seated at a desk facing the contestants.
