Beefcake The Mighty
Beefcake the Mighty is the bass guitarist of the heavy metal band Gwar. The character appears as a stout humanoid (hence his name), girded in Roman-style armor. He is usually portrayed wielding either an oversized Gladius sword or a large battle-axe. Since 2019, Beefcake has been portrayed by Casey Orr, one of several musicians to portray the character over the band's history. Background According to Gwar mythos, Beefcake originates from the planet Cholesterol (where he met singer Oderus Urungus). He weighs approximately 299 tons and "invented music by stretching dinosaur guts across the Grand Canyon". In the early days of Gwar, Balsac the Jaws of Death played bass and Beefcake played guitar. However by the time Gwar's first album ''Hell-O'' had been released, the roles had switched, and Beefcake became the permanent bass player. Michael Bishop (bassist)
Michael Bryan "Mike" Bishop (born September 7, 1968) is an American bassist and vocalist and a member of the heavy metal band Gwar. Life and career He attended Thomas Dale High School in Chester, Virginia. Most notably, he was the bass guitarist and, after a 20-year hiatus, is currently the lead vocalist for the American Heavy metal music, heavy metal band Gwar. Bishop's first band was the Hopewell, VA-based hardcore outfit The Guilty. As a member of Gwar, he was the first to play the role of "Beefcake the Mighty". The name of Beefcake was taken from Bishop's nickname during his punk years. Bishop was the bassist and lead vocalist for Kepone (band), Kepone from 1991 through the band's breakup in 1997. All three members of Kepone later performed together again as American Grizzly until that band's breakup in 2005. Pigface is an American industrial rock Supergroup (music), supergroup formed in 1990 by Martin Atkins and William Rieflin. History Pigface was formed from Ministry (band), Ministry's ''The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste'' tour, which produced the ''In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up'' live album and video. For the tour, Al Jourgensen brought on Atkins, Nivek Ogre and Chris Connelly (musician), Chris Connelly. Also on the tour was Rieflin, regular Ministry drummer at the time. While Atkins enjoyed the dynamic of playing with a second drummer, he felt that the lineup was capable of doing much more than being what he has frequently called "a Ministry cover band". Once the tour was over, Atkins and Rieflin decided to continue working together and recruited several of their tourmates. Mike Derks (born June 28, 1968; also known by his stage name Balsac the Jaws of Death, stylized BälSäc the Jaws ‘o Death) is an American guitarist, best known as the rhythm guitarist in the American heavy metal band Gwar since 1988. On stage he appears as a humanoid creature with a face resembling a bear-trap, usually portrayed wielding an enormous battleaxe. History Before Derks joined the group in 1988, the original 1985 Gwar lineup featured two separate characters Jaws of Death and BalSac. Jaws of Death played by guitarist Steve Douglas (of Death Piggy), who wore a crude version of the familiar animal trap face, and BalSac (1985-1987) played by bassist Chris Bopst, who wore a simple open-face piece of spiked headgear. Douglas returned to the band as Balsac the Jaws of Death for the recording of Gwar's first album '' Hell-O''. He was replaced by Derks shortly after. This Toilet Earth
''This Toilet Earth'' is the fourth album released by heavy metal band Gwar. Released on March 29, 1994, this album was to be one of their oddest and most bittersweet albums. It was the first Gwar album to be censored (the second was '' We Kill Everything'', which comes in both censored and uncensored versions), due to their gain in popularity as a result of MTV exposure. The music and artwork is almost cartoonish when compared to the previous albums, and the instrumentation had expanded to include horns (in the opener, "Saddam a Go-Go") that reinforce the goofiness. An instrumental version of the song "Jack the World" was also featured in the ''Beavis and Butt-Head'' video game for the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
