Becky Buller
Rebecca “Becky” Haley Buller is an American bluegrass singer-songwriter, fiddle player, and music teacher. Buller is the first woman to win the International Bluegrass Music Award for Fiddle Player of the Year as well as the first artist to win awards in both vocal and instrumental categories in the same year. Career Becky is the recipient of 1International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA)awards, including the 2020 Song Of The Year, “Chicago Barn Dance” (co-written with Missy Raines and Alison Brown); 2020 Collaborative Recording for “The Barber’s Fiddle”; 2016 Fiddler and Female Vocalist and the 2018 Gospel Recorded Performance for the song “Speakin’ To That Mountain”. Bluegrass Music
Bluegrass music is a genre of American roots music that developed in the 1940s in the Appalachian region of the United States. The genre derives its name from the band Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys. Like mainstream country music, it largely developed out of old-time string music, though in contrast, bluegrass is traditionally played exclusively on acoustic instruments and also has roots in traditional English, Scottish, and Irish ballads and dance tunes as well as in blues and jazz. Bluegrass was further developed by musicians who played with Monroe, including 5-string banjo player Earl Scruggs and guitarist Lester Flatt. The Special Consensus is an acoustic bluegrass group led by banjoist Greg Cahill.http://specialc.com Biography History In 1973, graduate student Cahill jammed with other bluegrass musicians at the University of Chicago Folk Festival. They began playing house parties, but in 1975 Cahill and bassist Marc Edelstein decided to pursue a music career for a few years as Special Consensus. The initial line-up included Cahill, Edelstein, Jeremy Raven (mandolin), Jim Iberg (guitar), and Jim Hale (fiddle). The band name was inspired by a series of books written by Carlos Castenada about rituals of the Yaqui Indians. Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out (formerly known as IIIrd Tyme Out) is a bluegrass band formed in 1991 in Cumming, Georgia. Rickie Lee Skaggs (born July 18, 1954), known professionally as Ricky Skaggs, is an American neotraditional country and bluegrass singer, musician, producer, and composer. Alan Bartram (born April 19, 1977) is an American bluegrass musician who plays bass. He is best known for his work with the Del McCoury Band and the Travelin' McCourys. Kenny Smith is an American guitarist and vocalist in the bluegrass tradition. Biography Early years Smith is originally from Nine Mile, Indiana. His father and grandfather played fiddle, and Smith started playing guitar at age 4. He learned to play fiddle tunes on the guitar by listening to Norman Blake's albums. Lonesome River Band Smith began playing professionally with Claire Lynch and the Front Porch Stringband in 1993. In 1996, Smith joined Sammy Shelor, Don Rigsby, and Ronnie Bowman as a member of The Lonesome River Band, replacing Tim Austin. Joe Mullins is an American banjo player, vocalist, band leader, and radio broadcaster. He plays bluegrass and gospel music. Biography Joe Mullins was born and raised in southwestern Ohio. His father Paul "Moon" Mullins was a respected fiddler and broadcaster of a daytime bluegrass show on Classic Country Radio for more than four decades. Mullins toured and recorded as a member of the Traditional Grass, the band he founded with his father, from 1983 until 1995. The band signed to Rebel Records and recorded four albums for the label between 1992 and 1995 following four previous independent projects on cassette.
