Battle Of Shusha (2020)
The Battle of Shusha ( or ; ) was the final and decisive battle of the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War, fought between the armed forces of Azerbaijan and the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh, militarily supported by Armenia, over the control of the city of Shusha. The battle is considered one of the bloodiest battles of the war. Shusha, known to Armenians as ''Shushi'', and the surrounding mountainous terrain, is one of the most strategically important locations in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh, Nagorno-Karabakh region, and is usually referred to as the "beating heart" of the region. The Second Nagorno-Karabakh War was an armed conflict in 2020 that took place in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh and the Armenian-occupied territories surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, surrounding occupied territories. Artsakh ( ), officially the Republic of Artsakh or the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh ( ), was a breakaway state in the South Caucasus whose territory was internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan. The National Security Service (NSS) () is the outgoing security service of Armenia, responsible for national security and intelligence matters. The service is also responsible for the Armenian Border Guard. The NSS is being replaced by the civilian-run Foreign Intelligence Service, established in 2023. The NSS, the direct successor of the Soviet KGB of the Armenian SSR, was once responsible for all domestic and foreign intelligence and counterintelligence affairs, as well as the security detail for the Prime Minister of Armenia. The Homeland Party () is a centre-right political party in Armenia. It was founded on 30 May 2020 by Artur Vanetsyan.
