Battle Of Hill 187
The Battle of Hill 187 was a battle between Canadian and Chinese forces during the Korean War which took place north of the city of Gapyeong. The Battle of Hill 187 was one of the last major battles of the Korean War. First attack On 2 May 1953, Lieutenant Gerard Balfour Meynell of the 3rd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment, was leading a patrol near Hill 187. Chinese forces then attacked Meynell's patrol, killing him and half of the patrol. Remnants of the patrol managed to withdraw to defensive positions on Hill 187. Defence of the hill After a heavy artillery barrage, the Chinese launched numerous human wave attacks in an attempt to take the hill. One wave blew gaps in the wire, another wave threw grenades and the other wave was the assault group. The 81st Field Regiment, RCA, laid down defensive fire in an attempt to keep Chinese forces back. Yeoncheon County
Yeoncheon County (''Yeoncheon-gun'') is a county in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The county seat is Yeoncheon-eup (연천읍) and sits on the Korail railroad line connecting Seoul, South Korea, with North Korea ( DPRK). History A variety of paleolithic relics have been discovered at Jeongok-ri, first in 1978. Since 1993 the Yeoncheon Jeongok-ri Paleolithic Festival has celebrated the discovery. Yeoncheon was the site of the Battle of Yultong during the Korean War, where the Philippine 10th Battalion Combat Team defended their position during the First Chinese Spring Offensive. The human wave attack, also known as the human sea attack, is an offensive infantry tactic in which an attacker conducts an unprotected frontal assault with densely concentrated infantry formations against the enemy line, intended to overrun and overwhelm the defenders by engaging in melee combat. Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI, generally referred to as the Patricia's) is one of the three Regular Force infantry regiments of the Canadian Army of the Canadian Armed Forces. Formed in 1914, it is named for Princess Patricia of Connaught, daughter of the then-Governor General of Canada. The regiment is composed of three battalions, for a total of 2,000 soldiers. Royal Canadian Regiment
The Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR) is an infantry regiment of the Canadian Army. The regiment consists of four battalions, three in the Regular Force and one in the primary reserve. The RCR is ranked 1st in the order of precedence amongst Canadian Army infantry regiments, but in a quirk of the rules of seniority, its 4th battalion is 9th. The RCR was originally authorized as the Infantry School Corps on 21 December 1883, and established its first three Company (military unit), company stations at Fredericton, New Brunswick; St Jean, Quebec; and Toronto, Ontario.
