''Back to the Bars'' is a live album by rock musician Todd Rundgren, which was released as a double LP in 1978. The album was recorded during week-long stints in New York City ( The Bottom Line), Los Angeles ( The Roxy), and Cleveland ( The Agora). The music featured the best of Rundgren's most commercial work spanning seven of the eight solo albums released in the 1970s up to, but not including, his most recent at the time. This effort was in place of rumors of a re-release of his out-of-print first two LPs, ''Runt'', and ''Runt. The Ballad of Todd Rundgren''. The only offering from those were "The Range War", and the bulk of the material came from ''Something/Anything?'', ''A Wizard, a True Star'', ''Todd, Initiation'', and ''Faithful''. Todd Rundgren
Todd Harry Rundgren (born June 22, 1948) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer who has performed a diverse range of styles as a solo artist and as a member of the bands Nazz and Utopia. He is known for his sophisticated and often unorthodox music, his occasionally lavish stage shows, and his later experiments with interactive art. He also produced music videos and was an early adopter and promoter of various computer technologies, such as using the Internet as a means of music distribution in the late 1990s. A native of Philadelphia, Rundgren began his professional career in the mid-1960s, forming the psychedelic band Nazz in 1967. Hello People was a rock group that was created in New York City in late 1967 by producer Lou Futterman. History The idea for creating the group stemmed from Marcel Carné's 1945 film ''Children of Paradise'' (''Les Enfants du Paradis''). Etienne Decroux, the father of French mime, plays the part of Baptiste's father in the film. During the sixties, Decroux taught painting to a group of musicians. Since these musicians learned to paint so quickly, Decroux reasoned that musicians could also learn mime and apply it in some new way to create a new form. The manager of the musicians Decroux taught, Lou Futterman, decided he would implement this new concept, and put together a new group of musicians who would perform in mime makeup and do mime routines between songs, never speaking a word to the audience. In a group of animals (usually a litter of animals born in multiple births), a runt is a member which is significantly smaller or weaker than the others.. ''A Wizard, a True Star'' is the fourth studio album by American musician Todd Rundgren, released on March 2, 1973, by Bearsville Records. It marked a departure from his previous album, ''Something/Anything?'' (1972), featuring fewer straightforward pop songs, a development he attributed to his experimentation with psychedelic drugs and his realization of "what music and sound were like in my internal environment, and how different that was from the music I had been making." It is the follow-up to the previous year's '' A Wizard, a True Star'' and features a comparatively heavier reliance on guitar playing and synthesizers. ''Faithful'' is the seventh studio album by American musician Todd Rundgren, released in May 1976 on Bearsville Records. Music Rundgren explained the motivation of the first side as treating rock music like European classical music, where a piece is always performed in the same way. Rundgren is backed on the album by the other three members of Utopia: Roger Powell on keyboards, John Siegler on bass, and John Wilcox on drums. The first side is dedicated to "faithful" re-recordings of songs from 1966, while side two contains original songs inspired by music of that time period. ''Initiation'' is the sixth album by American musician Todd Rundgren, released May 23, 1975 on Bearsville Records. With this album, Rundgren fully embraced the synthesized prog sound he had begun exploring in more depth in his work with his band Utopia. However, unlike Utopia, in which Rundgren had limited himself to playing guitar, much of the synthesizers on ''Initiation'' were played and programmed by Rundgren himself. Content At over sixty-seven minutes, ''Initiation'' is one of the longest commercially-released albums released in a single LP disc. John William Oates (born April 7, 1948) is an American musician, best known as half of the rock and soul duo Hall & Oates along with Daryl Hall. He has played rock, R&B, and soul music, serving as a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer.
