Avni Institute Of Art And Design
Avni Institute of Art and Design is an Israeli art school located in Tel Aviv. History The Studia school (later Avni Institute) was established in 1936 by a group of Jewish artists. Among the founders was Aharon Avni, who became the school's first director. After Avni's death the school was renamed in his memory. The school offers degrees in art and design and architecture. It also runs a Bachelor of Arts program in collaboration with the Open University of Israel. The Avni Institute is located in a complex of buildings on Eilat Street in South Tel Aviv. The buildings are named after the school's leading teachers. On the premises is a large gallery space where students can exhibit their works. Moses Hacmon
Moses Hacmon (born October 29, 1977) is an Israeli photographer. Biography Moshe (Moses) Hacmon was born in Tel Aviv. He studied cinematography and fine art at the Avni Institute of Art and Design and attended the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. In 2006, he completed his Bachelor of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture. He completed a Bachelor of Architecture with AIA honors, from Southern California Institute of Architecture. Hacmon married Trisha Paytas in December 2021. In February 2022, Paytas announced that she was pregnant. The couple's first child, Malibu Barbie Paytas-Hacmon, was born in September 2022. Education In Israel
The education system in Israel consists of three tiers: primary education (grades 1–6, approximately ages 6–12), middle school (grades 7–9, approximately ages 12–15) and high school (grades 10–12, approximately ages 15–19). Compulsory education takes place from kindergarten through 10th grade. Boaz Vaadia
Boaz Vaadia (November 13, 1951 – February 25, 2017) was an Israeli–American artist and sculptor who worked primarily in stone and subsequently by casting in bronze. Based in New York City since 1975, his studio is located in Brooklyn. The power of natural materials and the relation of human beings to that power determine the content of Vaadia's sculpture. Yona Wallach
Yona Wallach ( he, יונה וולך; June 10, 1944 – September 26, 1985) was an Israeli poet. Her surname also appears as Volach. She is considered a revolutionary Israeli Feminism, feminist and Postmodernism, post-modernist. Wallach was a promising young poet, though she neglected her talents for many years as she used drugs and explored the Jewish mysticism that influenced much of her work. She didn't receive critical acclaim for her work until the late 70s. Wallach developed breast cancer in 1981 and refused treatment for many years. She died in 1985. Itzchak Tarkay
Itzchak Tarkay ( he, יצחק טרקאי; 1935 – June 3, 2012) was an Israeli painter and graphic artist. He is used trade dress to protect his style from being emulated via ''Romm Art Creations Ltd. v. Simcha International, Inc.''. A case that Tarkay won. Biography Itzchak Tarkay was born in Subotica, on the Yugoslav-Hungarian border. At the age of 9, Tarkay and his family were sent to the Mauthausen concentration camp by the Nazis until Allied liberation freed them a year later. In 1949, his family immigrated to Israel and was sent to the transit camp for new arrivals at Be'er Ya'akov. They lived in a kibbutz for several years. In 1951 Tarkay received a scholarship to the Avni Institute of Art and Design, where he studied under the artist Schwartzman and was mentored by important Israeli artists of the time including Moshe Mokady, Marcel Janco, Yehezkel Streichman and Avigdor Stematsky. Siona Shimshi
Siona Shimshi (also "Ziona"; he, ציונה שמשי; July 14, 1939 – October 16, 2018) was an Israeli painter, sculptress, ceramist, and textile designer. Early life Shimshi was born in Tel Aviv, to Haya Rivka (Kuklanski) and Avraham Shimshi, who had immigrated to Mandate Palestine from Lithuania in 1933. She married Jachin Hirsch, an Israeli filmmaker, in 1961. She studied at the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv from 1956 to 1959, with Avigdor Stematsky, Yehezkel Streichman, and Moshe Mokady. She also studied ceramics at Alfred University in New York, from 1959 to 1962, as well as at Greenwich House Pottery in New York City. Avi Schwartz
Avi Schwartz (born 1938) is an Israeli painter. Biography Childhood and adolescence Avi Schwartz was born in Bucharest, Romania, in 1938. His family was in the diamond business. Early in life he absorbed artistic values at home, where the walls were decorated with pictures from his father's rich art collection. The realityle of portraits and scenery was then considered classic, and Avi strived to imitate it. His opportunity came during World War II, while Bucharest was being bombed, and he and his family were forced to remain at home for long periods of time. During those days he copied the pictures he saw before him. In 1947 his family succeeded in leaving Romania and immigrated to Israel in 1948, via Paris. Ofer Lellouche
Ofer Lellouche ( he, עופר ללוש, born 19 April 1947 in Tunis) is an Israeli painter, sculptor, etcher and video artist. Biography Lellouche was born in Tunisia in 1947. He studied mathematics and physics in Paris at Saint Louis College. In 1966, two months before he was scheduled to graduate, he ran away to Kibbutz Yehiam in Israel. In 1968, during his service in the Israel Defense Forces, he contracted hepatitis and began to paint while recovering. He began his formal art training at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv under the abstract lyrical painter Yehezkiel Streichman. David Leviathan
David Leviathan (born 6 August 1950) is an Israeli painter, sculptor, and poet. Biography David Leviathan was born and grew up in Kibbutz Givat Brenner in Israel. Right after completing his military service, in the year 1972, he attended the Avni Institute of Fine Arts. During his studies there, he became an assistant of his teacher – master, the artist Yehezkel Streichman, and later on he was teaching there himself.
