Australian rules football in Nauru (typically referred to as "football", "Australian Football" or less commonly as "AFL") dates back to the 1910s and quickly established itself as the national sport of the country. Today, it has an overall participation rate of over 30%, which is the highest for the sport in the world. Linkbelt Oval is a sports stadium on the island nation of Nauru. It is located in Aiwo and was constructed by the Nauru Phosphate Corporation. It is also called the Aida Oval, because Aida, one of the athletic organizations in Nauru, holds its competitions and trainings here. 1,000-capacity Denig Stadium, which hosted home games of association football club Black Brothers, and Linkbelt Oval are the main sports venues on Nauru. The Brisbane Lions is a professional Australian rules football club based in Brisbane, Queensland, that plays in the Australian Football League (AFL). Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Bernard Francis Quinlan (born 21 July 1951) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Footscray Football Club and Fitzroy Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). One of a handful of players to have won a Brownlow Medal and Coleman Medal, Quinlan was an inaugural inductee in the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996. The Hubert Murray Stadium is a sports venue located in Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea. It was developed for the 1969 South Pacific Games on reclaimed land at Konedobu that had previously been shoreline mangroves. The athletics events and the opening and closing ceremonies were held at the new stadium, which was named after Sir Hubert Murray, a former lieutenant governor. With an initial capacity of approximately 15,000 spectators, it was used for soccer and school athletic events after the 1969 games.
