Assembly Of Independent Democrats
The Assembly of Independent Democrats was an electoral coalition that participated in the January 30, 2005 National Assembly legislative election in Iraq. It was led by Adnan Pachachi (a Sunni Arab former foreign minister who was on the Iraqi Governing Council until January 2004) and his party, the Democratic Centrist Tendency. The assembly included also Dr Mahdi al-Hafez, who was the minister of planning, Dr Ayham al-Samarie, former minister of electricity, Maysun al-Damluji, deputy minister of culture, Omar al-Farouq al-Damaluji, former minister of reconstruction, Atta Abdul-Wahab, ambassador of Iraq in Jordan, Mishkat al-Mumin, former minister of environment, Leila Abdul Latif, former minister of Labor & Social Affairs, Saad Abdul-Razzaq Hussain, and some other Iraqi politicians. Adnan Pachachi
Adnan al-Pachachi or Adnan Muzahim Ameen al-Pachachi ( ar, عدنان الباجه جي) (14 May 1923 – 17 November 2019) was a veteran Iraqi and Emirati politician and diplomat. Pachachi was Iraq's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1959 to 1965 and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq from 1965 to 1967, during the Six-Day War with Israel; he again served as Permanent Representative to the UN from 1967 to 1969. After 1971, he left Iraq in exile and became an Emirati Minister of State and political advisor to United Arab Emirates president Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Following the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, Pachachi was an important figure in Iraqi politics, often described as Iraq's elder statesman. Omar Al-Farouq Al-Damaluji
ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb ( ar, عمر بن الخطاب, also spelled Omar, ) was the second Rashidun caliph, ruling from August 634 until his assassination in 644. He succeeded Abu Bakr () as the second caliph of the Rashidun Caliphate on 23 August 634. Umar was a senior companion and father-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. He was also an expert Muslim jurist known for his pious and just nature, which earned him the epithet ''al-Fārūq'' ("the one who distinguishes (between right and wrong)"). Ayad Allawi ( ar, إيَاد عَلَّاوِي ; born 31 May 1944) is an Iraqi politician. He served as the vice president of Iraq from 2014 to 2015 and 2016 to 2018. Previously he was interim prime minister of Iraq from 2004 to 2005 and the president of the Governing Council of Iraq (38th prime minister of Iraq) in 2003. A prominent Iraqi political activist who lived in exile for almost 30 years, Allawi, a Shia Muslim, became a member of the Iraq Interim Governing Council, which was established by U.S.-led coalition authorities following the 2003 invasion of Iraq. December 2005 Iraqi Legislative Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Iraq on 15 December 2005, following the approval of a new constitution in a referendum of 15 October. Electoral system The elections took place under a list system, whereby voters chose from a list of parties and coalitions. 230 seats were apportioned among Iraq's 18 governorates based on the number of registered voters in each as of the January 2005 elections, including 59 seats for Baghdad Governorate. The seats within each governorate were allocated to lists through a system of Proportional Representation. An additional 45 "compensatory" seats were allocated to those parties whose percentage of the national vote total (including out of country votes) exceeds the percentage of the 275 total seats that they have been allocated. Mishkat Al-Moumin ( ''Mishkāt al-Mū‘min'', also Romanized ''al-Mumin'') is an Iraqi lawyer and lecturer. She served as the Minister of Environment in the Iraqi Interim Government under Iyad Allawi (2004–05). After surviving several assassination attempts due to her advocacy for women's rights, she moved to the United States. Biography Mishkat al-Moumin was born in Beirut, Lebanon but moved with her family to Iraq. Her father was a lecturer at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad. She received her Master of Arts and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Baghdad. Al-Moumin began her career as a lawyer, serving as a member and supervisor of Head's Office for Iraqi Bar Association. In 2001, she joined the Baghdad University's College of Law as a lecturer, a post she held until 2004. Al-Moumin established and became the director of Women and Environment Organisation.
