Arna Bontemps
Arna Wendell Bontemps ( ) (October 13, 1902 – June 4, 1973) was an American poet, novelist and librarian, and a noted member of the Harlem Renaissance. Early life Bontemps was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, into a Louisiana Creole family. His ancestors included free people of color and French colonists. His father was a contractor and sometimes would take his son to construction sites. As the boy got older, his father would take him along to speak-easies at night that featured jazz. Arna Church
Arna Church ( no, Arna kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Indre Arna. It is one of two churches in the Arna parish which is part of the Åsane prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, stone church was built in a long church design in 1864 using plans drawn up by the architect Frederik Hannibal Stockfleth. The church seats about 280 people. History In 1861, a cemetery was built in Arna, and soon after, planning began for a church at the cemetery. Frederik Hannibal Stockfleth was hired to design the new church and a man named Wangberg was hired as the lead builder. The church was completed in 1864, a date that is prominently displayed on the side of the church, and it was consecrated in 1865. The church received its first organ in 1912. Arna Township is a township in Pine County, Minnesota, Pine County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 86 at the 2000 census. History Arna Township was founded on March 11, 1910. Its name was proposed by a county auditor by the name of W.H. Hamlin. Early settlers to the area were attracted by land sales and the lumber industry. In 1912 the Soo Line Railroad passed through Arna Township, and the community of Markville, Minnesota, Markville sprang up with the railroad. Arna Mer-Khamis (20 March 1929 – 15 February 1995) was an Israeli Jewish political and human rights activist. In 1993, she was awarded the Right Livelihood Award for "passionate commitment to the defence and education of the children of Palestine." Biography Arna Mer was born in 1929, in Rosh Pinna, at the time Mandate Palestine. Mer's father was Gideon Mer, a Lithuanian-born Jewish scientist who pioneered the study of malaria during the British Mandate. Mer fought with the Palmach and Israel Defense Forces during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Mer married Saliba Khamis, a Christian Arab and a prominent member of Maki and had three sons: Spartacus, Juliano (who adopted the name Juliano Mer-Khamis), and Abir. Juliano, an actor, filmmaker, and peace activist who was murdered in 2011, directed the film ''Arna's Children'' about Mer's work with the Freedom Theatre. Arna-Bjørnar Fotball is a Norwegian football club from Arna, Bergen. It was founded in late 2000 as a merger between the football branches from ''IL Bjørnar'' and ''Arna T&IL'', and replaced Bjørnar IL in the league system from 2001. The women's team has played since then in the '' Toppserien'' apart from the 2005 season when it was in the First divisjon. Prominent members of the women's team (2009) are goalkeepers Reidun Seth and Erika Skarbø, and Nigerian keeper Precious Dede brought in to cover while Skarbø recovers from a long-term wrist injury.
