Ariarne Titmus
Ariarne Elizabeth Titmus (born 7 September 2000) is an Australian Swimming (sport), swimmer. She is the reigning Olympic champion in the women's 400-metre freestyle, having won the event at the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2024 Summer Olympics and the List of world records in swimming, world record holder in the long course World record progression 200 metres freestyle, 200-metre freestyle. Titmus is widely considered one of the greatest middle-distance swimmers of all time. In 2019 and 2020, she competed representing the Cali Condors in the International Swimming League. Background Ariarne has a sister and a half-brother, Christopher Titmus, from her father's previous relationship. In 2015, at the age of 14, Titmus and her family, including father Steve Titmus, moved from Tasmania to Queensland for better training opportunities. Swimming At The 2024 Summer Olympics – Women's 200 Metre Freestyle
The women's 200 metre freestyle event at the 2024 Summer Olympics was held on 28 and 29 July 2024 at Paris La Défense Arena, which was converted to a swimming pool for the swimming events. Australia's defending Olympic champion and world record holder Ariarne Titmus and fellow Australian Mollie O'Callaghan were considered the favourites for the event. Other contenders included Hong Kong's Siobhán Haughey and China's Yang Junxuan. All four progressed through the heats (preliminary rounds) and semifinals to the final. In the final, Haughey led the race for the first 150 metres, but on the final length she was overtaken by Titmus and O'Callaghan. O'Callaghan won with a new Olympic record of 1:53.27, Titmus finished second with 1:53.81 and Haughey finished third with 1:54.55. 2023 World Aquatics Championships
The 2023 World Aquatics Championships, the 20th edition of the World Aquatics Championships, were held in Fukuoka, Japan, from 14 to 30 July 2023. Originally scheduled to be held in 2021 as the 19th championships, the championships were postponed until May 2022 in response to the rescheduling of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was pushed back a second time to 2023 due to ongoing travel restrictions and safety measures in place in Japan. In its place, Budapest hosted the 19th Championships from 18 June to 3 July 2022, while the originally scheduled 2023 championships in Doha, Qatar, were moved to 2024. It was the second time Fukuoka hosted the event having previously held the 9th World Aquatics Championships in 2001, with South Africa's Roland Schoeman (swimming) and Brazil-Spain's Felipe Perrone (water polo) the only two athletes to compete in both the 2001 and 2023 championships.
