Arcanum (comics)
''Arcanum'' was an American comic book published by Image Comics in 1996, under the Top Cow banner. The series was created by artist Brandon Peterson Brandon Peterson is an American comic book writer and artist, known for his work on Marvel Comics from Paterson New Jersey and Top Cow's '' Codename: Strykeforce'' in the 1990s. Career Peterson's early works for Marvel include a ''New Warriors'' ..., in what was his first attempt at writing a series. It was vaguely a fantasy title, relying heavily on magical themes that were similar to other series Top Cow was publishing at the time. Peterson kept the title going for eight issues plus a 1/2 issue published by Wizard Entertainment, but the series was cancelled by Top Cow. Peterson wrapped up all plotlines in the final issue. Comic Book
A comic book, also called comicbook, comic magazine or (in the United Kingdom and Ireland) simply comic, is a publication that consists of comics art in the form of sequential juxtaposed panels that represent individual scenes. Panels are often accompanied by descriptive prose and written narrative, usually, dialogue contained in word balloons emblematic of the comics art form. "Comic Cuts" was a British comic published from 1890 to 1953. It was preceded by "Ally Sloper's Half Holiday" (1884) which is notable for its use of sequential cartoons to unfold narrative. These British comics existed alongside of the popular lurid "Penny dreadfuls" (such as "Spring-heeled Jack"), boys' " Story papers" and the humorous Punch (magazine) which was the first to use the term "cartoon" in its modern sense of a humorous drawing. Image Comics
Image Comics is an American comic book publisher and is the third largest comic book and graphic novel publisher in the industry in both unit and market share. It was founded in 1992 by several high-profile illustrators as a venue for creator-owned properties, in which comics creators could publish material of their own creation without giving up the copyrights to those properties. Normally this isn't the case in the work for hire-dominated American comics industry, where the legal author is a publisher, such as Marvel Comics or DC Comics, and the creator is an employee of that publisher. Its output was originally dominated by superhero and fantasy series from the studios of the founding Image partners, but now includes comics in many genres by numerous independent creators. Top Cow Productions is an American comics publisher, an imprint of Image Comics founded by Marc Silvestri in 1992. History During the early years of Image Comics, which was founded in 1992, co-founder Marc Silvestri shared a studio with Jim Lee, where he created his first creator-owned comic book, '' Cyberforce'', as part of Image's initial line-up. After setting up his own studio, Top Cow Productions, he expanded into other comics, launching '' Codename: Strykeforce'', a new ''Cyberforce'' series and various spin-offs. The company attracted several professionals including artist Brandon Peterson, writer Garth Ennis and former Marvel staffer David Wohl. It also helped launch the careers of various writers and artists, such as Christina Z., Joe Benitez, Michael Turner and David Finch. Brandon Peterson
Brandon Peterson is an American comic book writer and artist, known for his work on Marvel Comics from Paterson New Jersey and Top Cow's '' Codename: Strykeforce'' in the 1990s. Career Peterson's early works for Marvel include a ''New Warriors'' annual and a fill-in in ''X-Factor'' in 1992. Later in the year, he had a short run in ''Uncanny X-Men'', drawing the title's issues of the "X-Cutioner's Song" storyline. Peterson left Marvel to join Top Cow, pencilling the ongoing title ''Codename: Strykeforce''. After the title's cancellation, he wrote and drew the creator-owned title '' Arcanum'', before returning to Marvel in 1999 to work on several X-Men spinoff mini-series.
