Anthon is a city in Woodbury County in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is part of the Sioux City, IA– NE– SD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 545 at the 2020 census. Anthon was home to Charles Osborne, who had the hiccups continuously for 68 years, and was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records. It was also home to eunuchoidal giant Bernard Coyne, who was over 8 feet (243 cm) tall. Anthon was named for J. C. Anthon, a railroad engineer. It was founded in 1888. Anthon () is a commune in the Isère department in southeastern France. Geography Anthon stands on the left bank of the river Rhône opposite its confluence with the Ain, about 30 kilometres upstream from the centre of Lyon. Its inhabitants are Anthonois. History The place was originally established as a town by one Antonius Nepos. The only one we have named in Roman history was the fellow consul of Cicero in 62 BCE. He was Caius Antonius Nepos, uncle of the triumvir Marcus Antonius and second son of Marcus Antonius Orator. Caius Antonius Nepos was condemned for misappropriation of public funds and exiled in 59 BCE. He found refuge in Cephellenia according to some and in Gaul according to others. Anthon B Nilsen AS is a Norwegian investment company. It was established by Anthon Bernhard Elias Nilsen in 1879 to export pulp and paper products and lumber. His sons Reidar and Gunnar Holst took over in the 1930s, and ultimately established the Reidar and Gunnar Holst Foundation in 1973 to assure long-term ownership. In 2000, Nicolai H.
