The Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement for Music in a Feature Production (or Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement for Music in an Animated Feature Production) is an Annie Award given annually to the best music in an animated feature film, theatrical or direct-to-video. It began in 1997 as the Annie Award for "Best Individual Achievement: Music in a Feature/Home Video Production". Throughout the following years, the title was renamed "Outstanding Individual Achievement for Music in an Animated Feature Production", "Outstanding Individual Achievement for Music Score in an Animated Feature Production", and "Outstanding Music in an Animated Feature Production" before changing to its current title in 2005. It was retitled "Best Music in an Animated Feature Production" in 2006 for three years before being reverted to "Music in an Animated Feature Production" in 2009. The Annie Awards are accolades which the Los Angeles branch of the International Animated Film Association, ASIFA-Hollywood, has presented each year since 1972 to recognize excellence in animation shown in Film, cinema and television. Originally designed to celebrate lifetime or career contributions to animation, the award has been given to individual works since 1992. Membership in ASIFA-Hollywood is divided into three main categories: General Member (for professionals), Patron (for enthusiasts of animation), and Student Member. David Zippel
David Joel Zippel (born May 17, 1954) is an American musical theatre lyricist, director, and producer. Early life and education Zippel was born and raised in Easton, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley region of eastern Pennsylvania. Falling in love with theater as a child, Zippel first articulated his life's ambition to become a lyricist and director in junior high school. As an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania, he contributed lyrics to an equity production of "a bizarre political musical" called ''Rotunda'', which had a brief run in Washington, D.C. before graduating with a B.A. in 1976. Matthew Wilder ( Weiner; January 24, 1953) is an American musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. Mark Watters (born May 25, 1955) is an American composer of music for film and television. Biography Watters is a six-time Emmy award-winning composer, conductor and arranger. He was born in Irving, Texas and majored in Saxophone at the University of Southern California where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Mark served as the music director of the 1996 Summer Olympics, and the 2002 Winter Olympics. ''Cats Don't Dance'' is a 1997 American animated musical comedy-drama film directed by Mark Dindal (in his feature directorial debut). It is the only fully animated feature produced by Turner Feature Animation, which was merged during the post-production of ''Cats Don't Dance'' into Warner Bros. Feature Animation after the merger of Time Warner with Turner Broadcasting System in 1996. Turner Feature Animation had previously produced the animated portions of ''The Pagemaster'' (1994).
