Angles (tribe)
The Angles (, ) were one of the main Germanic peoples who settled in Great Britain in the post-Roman period. They founded several kingdoms of the Heptarchy in Anglo-Saxon England. Their name, which probably derives from the Angeln peninsula, is the root of the name ''England'' ("Engla land", "Land of the Angles"), and ''English'', in reference to both for its people and language. According to Tacitus, writing around 100 AD, a people known as Angles (Anglii) lived beyond (apparently northeast of) the Lombards and Semnones, who lived near the River Elbe. Etymology The name of the Angles may have been first recorded in Latinised form, as ''Anglii'', in the ''Germania'' of Tacitus. It is thought to derive from the name of the area they originally inhabited, the Angeln peninsula, which is on the Baltic Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein. Angles, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence
Angles () is a Communes of France, commune in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence Departments of France, department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France. Geography Angles is located some 5 km south-east of Saint-Andre-les-Alpes and 15 km north-east of Castellane. The village is close to the centre of the commune in the valley of the Torrent d'Angles at an altitude of 956m. National Highway N202 passes along the south-west edge of the commune in a tunnel with a country road branching north-east to the village then continuing south-east to Vergons. The commune is remote and rugged with extensive forests totalling 417 hectares which is almost half the total area. There is a small area of farming activity near the village. The highest points in the commune are at Baisse d'Angles (1577m) and Serre Gros (1778m) on the Crest of Serres. Angles () is a commune in the Vendée department in the Pays de la Loire region in western France. Geography The river Lay forms all of the commune's eastern border. Angles is located to the south of the department between plains and marshes, 7 kilometres from the beaches of La Tranche sur Mer and Longeville sur Mer. ''Angles'' is the fourth studio album by American rock band The Strokes. It was released on March 22, 2011, through RCA Records. It was the group's first album in over five years, following ''First Impressions of Earth'' (2006). Recording After touring in support of ''First Impressions of Earth'', the Strokes went on an extended hiatus in 2007 and then regrouped two years later to begin writing new material for a fourth album. The album took more than two years to materialize, with the band recording live demos of 18 songs before heading into Avatar Studios in New York with producer Joe Chiccarelli, but without frontman Julian Casablancas. Not long after recording began, however, the band became frustrated with both Chiccarelli's reserved production style and Casablancas' absence. Only one song from these recording sessions, "Life Is Simple in the Moonlight", remained in its original form on the album's track listing. "Angles" is a song by American rapper Wale featuring American singer Chris Brown, released on June 18, 2021 through Warner Records as the lead single from Wale's seventh studio album '' Folarin II''. Background and content Wale posted on his social media platforms, announcing that the song would've been released at night. OG Parker, one of the main producers for the song, said that the inspiration came from the hip hop track " I Need a Girl": "Wale creates brilliant poems about his feelings for his leading lady, some of which are light-hearted and others which are sadder." Composition The song is written in the key of F Minor, with a tempo of 95 beats per minute. Víctor Angles Vargas (September 9, 1927 – February 22, 2025) was a Peruvian historian of Incan and Spanish periods of the history of Cuzco. Life and career Angles was born in Cuzco on September 9, 1927, the son of Nicolas Angles and Rosa Vargas Corazao. He completed his primary studies at the Humberto Luna school in that city and his secondary studies at the National College of Sciences. He pursued higher education at the University of Cuzco, from which he graduated as a lawyer. He also has completed studies in philosophy and a doctorate in history History is the systematic study of the past, focusing primarily on the Human history, human past. Alan McManus
Alan McManus (born 21 January 1971) is a Scottish retired professional snooker player, and a current commentator and pundit for ITV and Eurosport on snooker coverage. A mainstay of the world's top sixteen during the 1990s and 2000s, he has won two ranking events, the 1994 Dubai Classic and the 1996 Thailand Open, and competed in the World Championship semi-finals in 1992, 1993 and 2016. He also won the 1994 Masters, ending Stephen Hendry's five-year, 23-match unbeaten streak at the tournament with a 9–8 victory in the final.
