Angel Baby (1961 Film)
''Angel Baby'' is a 1961 American drama film directed by Paul Wendkos and starring Salome Jens, George Hamilton and Mercedes McCambridge. It was Burt Reynolds' film debut. Wendkos called it "one of my favorite pictures, because I had a theme." The song "Jenny Angel," sung by George Hamilton, is played during the closing credits of the film. Plot In the rural American south, Angel Baby, who has been mute from age eight on, is caught kissing Hoke by her mother, who interrupts them and chases Hoke off. Worried about Angel's soul, they go to a tent revival where Paul is preaching. Paul heals her muteness, urging her on to say "God" at first, then "Lord God" and a prayer of thankfulness. The next day, Angel believes that God has called her, so she decides to follow Paul and work in his ministry. She is given speaking lessons and a great deal of attention. Paul Wendkos
Abraham Paul Wendkos (September 20, 1925 – November 12, 2009) was an American television and film director. Early life and education Wendkos was born in Philadelphia to parents Simon Wendkos and Judith Wendkos. Wendkos served in World War II in the United States Navy and went to Columbia University on the G.I. Bill. Paul made his first feature, a documentary on a school for the blind called ''Dark Interlude'' in 1953. Career Columbia Pictures Wendkos' first feature film was '' The Burglar''. His fluid camera technique caught the attention of the head of Columbia Pictures, Harry Cohn, who not only wished to distribute the film but put Wendkos under contract. Wendkos directed episodes of ''Playhouse 90'' then did '' The Case Against Brooklyn'' (1958) for producer Charles Schneer at Columbia. Susan Kohner
Susanna "Susan" Kohner (born November 11, 1936) is an American retired actress who worked in film and television. She played Sarah Jane in '' Imitation of Life'' (1959), for which she was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe award. After Kohner married menswear designer and writer John Weitz in 1964, she retired from acting to devote time to her family. Her two sons, Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz, have both become film directors and producers, screenwriters, and occasional actors. Early life Kohner was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Lupita Tovar, a Mexican-born actress who had a career in Hollywood, and Paul Kohner, a film producer who was born in Bohemia, Austria-Hungary. Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix. Symptoms commonly include right lower abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and decreased appetite. However, approximately 40% of people do not have these typical symptoms. Severe complications of a ruptured appendix include widespread, painful inflammation of the inner lining of the abdominal wall and sepsis. Appendicitis is caused by a blockage of the hollow portion of the appendix. This is most commonly due to a calcified "stone" made of feces. Inflamed lymphoid tissue from a viral infection, parasites, gallstone, or tumors may also cause the blockage. This blockage leads to increased pressures in the appendix, decreased blood flow to the tissues of the appendix, and bacterial growth inside the appendix causing inflammation.
