Andrus Island
Andrus Island is an island in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta in Sacramento County, California, twenty kilometres northeast of Antioch. The island is bounded on the north, and northwest by the Sacramento River, on the west, Georgiana Slough, on the southeast, Mokelumne River, and San Joaquin River, on the southwest Jackson Slough, and Seven Mile Slough. The island is entirely within the bounds of the immense Rio Vista Gas Field, although well drilling pads and associated infrastructure make up only a small part of its land use, which is mainly agriculture. It is managed by Reclamation Districts 556, 407 and 317. The city of Isleton is on Andrus Island. John Emory Andrus
John Emory Andrus (February 16, 1841 – December 26, 1934) was mayor of Yonkers, New York, a U.S. Congressman from New York, and founder of the SURDNA Foundation. Biography Born in Pleasantville, New York, Andrus was the son of Methodist Minister, Loyal B. Andrus and Ann (Palmer) Andrus. He attended Charlotteville Seminary in Schoharie County, New York, and graduated from Wesleyan University in 1862. He married Julia Maria Dyckman on June 23, 1869. They had nine children, Mary, William, Edith, Margaret, Jesamine, John, Hamlin, Ida, and Helen. Career Andrus taught school in New Jersey for four years and then pursued his talents as an investor and businessman. His primary operating business, the Arlington Chemical Company, manufactured typical medicines of the late 1800s and distributed them worldwide. William Andrus
William Andrus (September 27, 1806 – March 10, 1884) was an American coach driver, farmer, and politician from New York. Life Andrus was born on September 27, 1806, in Malone, New York, the son of Cone Andrus and Melinda House. His brothers were assemblymen Lucius C. Andrus and Albert Andrus. Andrus went to school in Danbury, Connecticut. After finishing school, he returned to Malone and initially worked as a clerk in Jonathan Stearns' store. He soon left the job and worked for Jonathan Thompson, driving a mail coach between Plattsburgh and Ogdensburg until 1832. In 1842, he became a proprietor of that mail route, which he maintained until it was superseded by the railroad in 1851. When the Bank of Malone was founded in 1851, he became one of its directors, a position he was annually re-elected to. He was the only surviving member of the original board when he died. Francis Sedley Andrus LVO (26 February 1915 – 9 November 2009) was a long-serving English officer of arms who was Beaumont Herald of Arms Extraordinary. As such, he was a Royal officer of arms, though not a member of the College of Arms in London. Andrus was born in 1915, the son of Brigadier-General Thomas Alchin Andrus and Alice Loveday (née Parr). He was educated at Wellington College and St Peter's College, Oxford. Biography Andrus was born in Wilmington, New York, to Ruluf Andress and Azuba Smith. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1832 in Florence, Ohio. Marc Handley Andrus (born October 20, 1956) is an American bishop of the Episcopal Church (Anglican Communion). He is the current and eighth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of California. Prior to his election as Bishop of California, Andrus served as a suffragan bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama.
