The second season of ''Australian Idol'' debuted on 13 July 2004. Over 50,000 people throughout Australia auditioned. Overview As well as the five larger cities, the judges also visited Canberra, Hobart, Darwin, Northern Territory, Darwin and Tamworth, New South Wales, Tamworth this year. Of the twelve finalists, three were from Sydney, two were from Melbourne, and one each from Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Australia, Gold Coast, Hobart, Perth, Western Australia, Perth, Canberra, Adelaide and Bega, New South Wales, Bega. The controversial winner was Casey Donovan (singer), Casey Donovan. Runner up Anthony Callea, Courtney Murphy (3rd), Hayley Jensen (4th) and Chanel Cole (5th). The final 2, as well as Ricki-Lee Coulter (7th), were the only contestants of the Top 12 to score hits, with Callea ending up the highest seller with his first release of "The Prayer" being named the second highest selling song of the last decade by Australian Recording Industry Association, ARIA in January ...

Ian Ross Perrygrove (born 28 March 1963) better known as Ian "Dicko" Dickson or simply “Dicko” is an English Australian television and radio presenter, television producer, music journalist and former record company executive and talent scout. He has been a talent judge on ''Australian Idol'', ''The Next Great American Band'' and more recently ''Australia's Got Talent''. He previously spent over twenty years working in the record industry in both the U.K. and Australia, for labels including Creation Records, Sony, A&M and BMG and for music acts including Celine Dion, Ozzy Osbourne, Primal Scream and Pearl Jam. Early life and education Dickson is the grandson of former professional footballer Ian Dickson from Dumfries. As well as playing for hometown club Queen of the South, Dickson the footballer also played for Middlesbrough and for Aston Villa; while playing for the last he set roots in Birmingham, his grandson's home town.
