Abilene Christian Wildcats Football
The Abilene Christian Wildcats football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the Abilene Christian University located in the U.S. state of Texas. The team was a member of the Southland Conference through the 2020–21 season, but joined the Western Athletic Conference in July 2021, coinciding with that league's reinstatement of football as an official conference sport. The school's first football team was fielded in 1919. The team plays its home games at the on-campus Anthony Field at Wildcat Stadium. Keith Patterson
Keith Patterson (born May 20, 1964) is an American football coach. He is the head football coach at Abilene Christian University. Prior to that he was the defensive coordinator at Texas Tech University; while there, Patterson served as the team's head coach for a win against Kansas in 2020. Patterson was previously the defensive coordinator at Arizona State University for four years. Patterson was also the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the West Virginia Mountaineers football, West Virginia Mountaineers. Before one season at West Virginia, Patterson was the defensive coordinator for the Arkansas State Red Wolves football, Arkansas State Red Wolves on January 4, 2012, only to resign from the position six weeks later to join the West Virginia coaching staff. Gulf Coast Conference
The Gulf Coast Conference (GCC) was a short-lived NCAA college athletic conference composed of universities in the U.S. state of Texas from 1949 until 1957. The charter members of the conference were University of Houston, Midwestern University (now Midwestern State University), North Texas State College (now the University of North Texas), and Trinity University. The Gulf Coast Conference spawned from then members of the Lone Star Conference, and its president was D.L. Ligon. In 1956, when the NCAA created divisions, all members of the conference at the time were classified as part of the NCAA's College Division, which was later subdivided into Division II and Division III in 1973. DeWitt Jones
Dewitt Jones is an American professional photographer, writer, film director and public speaker, who is known for his work as a freelance photojournalist for National Geographic and his column in Outdoor Photographer Magazine. Wally Bullington
Wallace "Coach Bully" Bullington (May 17, 1931 – July 20, 2018) was a former American football player, coach, and college athletics administrator. He served Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas for 39 years as football player, assistant football coach, head football coach and athletic director before he retired from the university's athletic staff in 1988, but not before leading the school to its first national championship in 1973. Playing career As a player on the offensive line at Abilene Christian, Bullington was a four-year letterman and helped lead the Wildcats to the only perfect season in school history for the 1950 season with a record of 11–0. Bullington was named to the All-Texas Conference football team in 1950, 1951 and 1952 and was selected an All-American in 1952. Novice Lee "Nick" Nicholson (December 3, 1925 – September 29, 2010) was an American football player and coach. He was the eighth head football coach at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, serving for six seasons, from 1956 to 1961, and compiling a record of 28–30–1. Arthur Marvin "Tonto" Coleman (July 7, 1907 – October 18, 1973) was an American football coach and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Abilene Christian University from 1942 to 1949, compiling a record of 28–15–2.
