A Lady In Love
''A Lady in Love'' is a 1920 American silent drama film directed by Walter Edwards and written by Alice Eyton based upon a play of the same name by Harriet Ford and Caroline Duer. The film stars Ethel Clayton, Harrison Ford, Boyd Irwin, Clarence Geldart, Elsa Lorimer, and Ernest Joy. The film was released on May 30, 1920, by Paramount Pictures. It is not known whether the film currently survives. Plot As described in a film magazine, Barbara (Clayton) elopes from covenant school with Barton Sedgewick (Irwin), the rascally younger brother of her guardian George Sedgewick (Geldart). She soon discovers that Barton has another wife and child living. He also fears arrest for some frauds in which he was involved and flees the country. Barbara goes to live with George and his wife Clara (Lorimer). The latter has a secret admirer in Gilbert Rhodes (Joy), who is also a secret partner in Barton's crooked schemes. Walter Edwards (director)
Walter Edwards (January 8, 1870 – April 12, 1920), was an American director, screenwriter and actor. He directed 46 films during his career. Edwards initially work at the Elitch Theatre was as a director in 1896, but he later returned for multiple seasons as an actor in the summer stock cast. "In 1896, Mrs. Elitch signed J. H. Huntley to direct a resident stock company... After six weeks of melodrama, however, and a few unsatisfactory notices, the organization of the company was changed. Huntley, who was not very popular with audiences or with newspaper reviewers, was replaced by Walter Edwards." On July 12, 1896, Edwards started as director and his first play was J. K. Frances Raymond
Frances Raymond (1869–1961) was an American stage and film actress.Goble p.193 An established character actress, she played in a number of supporting roles during the silent era. Later, during the sound era, she primarily played much smaller, uncredited parts. Raymond was the daughter of Frederick Lapzieu of Brooklyn. Career Raymond's acting career ended in 1894. She acted with the Frohman road companies and had been performing in ''The Girl I Left Behind Me'' in Memphis when she and the management parted ways. Management of Charles Frohman's company said that she had been incompetent, while she said that she angered a company official by resisting his advances. Turning from acting to writing, Raymond spent almost three years working on a novel, ''Maylou'', which the G. W. Dillingham Company published in 1897. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress.
