Netball Australia
Netball Australia is the main governing body for netball in Australia. It is affiliated to World Netball. It is responsible for organising and administrating the Australia national netball team, Suncorp Super Netball and the Australian National Netball Championships. It previously organised and administrated the Australian Netball League, the ANZ Championship, the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league and the Esso/Mobil Superleague. Netball Australia was originally founded in 1927 as the All Australia Women's Basket Ball Association. Shelley O'Donnell
Shelley O'Donnell is a former Australia netball international. Between 1990 and 1999, O'Donnell made 84 senior appearances for Australia. She was a member of the Australia teams that won gold medals at the 1991, 1995 and 1999 World Netball Championships, the 1993 World Games and the 1998 Commonwealth Games. During the Esso/Mobil Superleague era, O'Donnell played for several teams, including the Australian Institute of Sport and Contax. Between 1997 and 2005, O'Donnell played for Melbourne Kestrels in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league. In 1992, she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth nations. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball. However, the sport is the result of Clara Baer's misinterpretation of its rules. Wilma Shakespear
Wilma Joyce Shakespear (born 4 March 1943), previously known as Wilma Ritchie, is a former Australia netball international, Australia head coach and sports administrator. As a player, she represented Australia at the 1963 World Netball Championships, winning a gold medal. Shakespear coached Australia at the 1971, 1979 and 1987 World Netball Championships and at the 1989 World Games. Shakespear also served as head netball coach at the Australian Institute of Sport. Shakespear is married to Peter Shakespear, a former Australian rower. In 1992 she was made a Member of the Order of Australia. Anne Clark (netball)
Anne Evelyn Clark was an Australian netball administrator, umpire and coach. Between 1950 and 1979 she served as President of the New South Wales Women's Basketball Association. Between 1955 and 1978, she also served five terms as President of the All Australia Netball Association. Clark umpired at the 1967 and 1975 World Netball Championships. In 1975 she was awarded the British Empire Medal and in 2009 was inducted into the Australian Netball Hall of Fame. Clark died on 12 June 1983 in Singapore while attending the 1983 World Netball Championships. She was cremated in Sydney. Early life, family and employment Clark was born on 16 August 1903 in Waterloo, Sydney. She was the third of five children. Lorna McConchie
Lorna Jean McConchie (22 July 1914 – 9 December 2001) was a former Australia netball international and national team head coach. In 1938 McConchie played for Australia in their first international match against New Zealand. McConchie was later head coach when Australia won the inaugural 1963 World Netball Championships. In 2009 she was inducted into the Australian Netball Hall of Fame. Early life and education McConchie attended East Kew Primary School and University High School before studying physical education at the University of Melbourne. She subsequently became a lecturer at Melbourne and helped establish the university's physical education course. Sharelle McMahon
Sharelle Jane McMahon (born 12 August 1977) is an Australian former netball player who List of Australia national netball team captains, captained the Australia national netball team. She played in the goal attack and goal shooter positions. Marcia Ella-Duncan
Marcia Ella-Duncan OAM (born 1963) is a former Australian netball player. She became the first Indigenous netballer to represent the Australian Diamonds. Personal Ella was born in 1963 in La Perouse, a suburb of Sydney. She is a descendant of the Yuin nation. Her parents moved to Sydney from South Coast, New South Wales.She was the ninth of twelve children. Norma Plummer
Norma Margaret Plummer AM (born 24 November 1944) is a former Australian national player who also served as netball coach for both Australia and South Africa. She was coach of Australia from 2003 to 2011, ending her coaching career with the Diamonds on 67 victories from 89 Tests — a success rate of 75 per cent. She was replaced as coach of Australia by Lisa Alexander. She was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for her services to the sport. In November 2022 it is announced she will be returning to South Africa to coach the South Africa national netball side the Spar Proteas starting in 2022.
