Assassination Of Ismail Haniyeh
On 31 July 2024, Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, was assassinated along with his personal bodyguard in the Iranian capital Tehran by an apparent Israeli attack. Haniyeh was killed in his accommodation in a military-run guesthouse after attending the inauguration ceremony for Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian. Nasser Kanaani, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Iran), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, condemned this assassination and said that Haniyeh's "blood will never be wasted". The cause of Haniyeh's death is under investigation by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Israel–Hamas War
An armed conflict between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups has been taking place chiefly in and around the Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023. The chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau (), also known as the chairman of the Hamas Shura Council () from 1987 until 2004, is the overall and de facto leader of Hamas, a Palestinian Sunni Islam, Sunni Islamism, Islamist political and military organisation that is Hamas government in the Gaza Strip, governing most of the Gaza Strip since Battle of Gaza (2007), 2007. Israeli-occupied Territories
Israeli-occupied territories are the lands that were captured and occupied by Israel during the Six-Day War of 1967. While the term is currently applied to the Palestinian territories and the Golan Heights, it has also been used to refer to areas that were formerly occupied by Israel, namely the Sinai Peninsula and southern Lebanon.
