''As Time Goes By'' is a compilation album by the American music duo The Carpenters. It is a collection of songs taken from demos, outtakes, live performances, and television specials recorded by the Carpenters between 1967 and 1980. The Carpenters
The Carpenters were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen Carpenter, Karen (1950–1983) and Richard Carpenter (musician), Richard Carpenter (born 1946). They produced a distinctive soft musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's harmonizing, arranging, and composition. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 10 albums along with many singles and several television specials. The siblings were born in New Haven, Connecticut, but moved to Downey, California, in 1963. Richard took piano lessons as a child, progressing to California State University, Long Beach, while Karen learned the drums. They first performed together as a duo in 1965 and formed the jazz-oriented Richard Carpenter Trio along with Wesley Jacobs, then formed the Middle of the road (music), middle-of-the-road band Spectrum. "Theme from ''Close Encounters of the Third Kind''" is a 1978 instrumental hit single by composer John Williams. It is the main theme of the soundtrack of the movie of the same name. The song became a hit in the United States (#13) and Canada (#12) during the winter of that year. A few months before the release of the song, Williams had released a competing version of ''Star Wars'' theme music, " Star Wars (Main Title)," which reached number 10 on the US ''Billboard'' chart, while " Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band" was a number one hit for Meco. Both artists simultaneously again issued competing versions of scores from the ''Close Encounters'' movie. Bonnie Bramlett (born Bonnie Lynn O'Farrell, November 8, 1944) is an American singer and occasional actress known for performing with her husband, Delaney Bramlett, as Delaney & Bonnie. Edward Eliscu (April 2, 1902 – June 18, 1998) was an American lyricist, playwright, producer and actor, and a successful writer of songs for films. Life Eliscu was born in Manhattan, New York City. His parents, Frank and Sofia Eliscu, were born in Romania and emigrated to the United States. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School in Manhattan as a classmate of director George Cukor. ''Made in America'' is the tenth studio album by the American music duo The Carpenters, released in June 1981. Karen Carpenter died less than two years later, making it their final album released in her lifetime. It reached number 52 in the US and number 12 in the UK. Karen played drums in the studio for the first time since ''Horizon'', on the song "When It's Gone (It's Just Gone)", albeit in unison with veteran Nashville session drummer Larrie Londin, and she also played percussion on " Those Good Old Dreams" in tandem with Paulinho da Costa. The album yielded their last Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 hit, "Touch Me When We're Dancing", which peaked at #16.
