Its name was approved in 1973 and refers to the French astronomer François Arago. Arago is highly eroded and subdued and is thus ancient. Arago is believed to have once held a giant lake that drained into the Naktong-Scamander-Mamers lake-chain system.Fassett, C. and J. Head III. 2008. "Valley network-fed, open-basin lakes on Mars: Distribution and implications for Noachian surface and subsurface hydrology". ''Icarus'': 198. 39-56. Naktong Vallis is to the south of Arago and Scamander Vallis is to the north. Water flowed from the south to the north and pooled in Arago and also in the larger Tikhonravov crater to the northeast of Arago. Arago Spot
In optics, the Arago spot, Poisson spot, or Fresnel spot is a bright point that appears at the center of a circular object's shadow due to Fresnel diffraction. This spot played an important role in the discovery of the wave nature of light and is a common way to demonstrate that light behaves as a wave. The basic experimental setup requires a point source, such as an illuminated pinhole or a diverging laser beam. The dimensions of the setup must comply with the requirements for Fresnel diffraction. Namely, the Fresnel number must satisfy F = \frac \gtrsim 1, where * is the diameter of the circular object, * is the distance between the object and the screen, and * is the wavelength of the source. Finally, the edge of the circular object must be sufficiently smooth. These conditions together explain why the bright spot is not encountered in everyday life. However, with the laser sources available today, it is undemanding to perform an Arago-spot experiment. In astronomy, t ...

Rings Of Neptune
The rings of Neptune consist primarily of five principal Planetary ring, rings. They were first discovered (as "arcs") by simultaneous observations of a stellar occultation on 22 July 1984 by André Brahic's and William B. Hubbard's teams at La Silla Observatory (ESO) and at Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory in Chile. They were eventually imaged in 1989 by the ''Voyager 2'' spacecraft. At their densest, they are comparable to the less dense portions of Rings of Saturn, Saturn's main rings such as the C ring and the Cassini Division, but much of Neptune's ring system is quite faint and Cosmic dust, dusty, in some aspects more closely resembling the rings of Jupiter. Neptune's rings are named after astronomers who contributed important work on the planet: Johann Gottfried Galle, Galle, Urbain Le Verrier, Le Verrier, William Lassell, Lassell, François Arago, Arago, and John Couch Adams, Adams. Neptune also has a faint unnamed ring coincident with the orbit of the moon Galatea (m ...
