Antoniadi (lunar Crater)
Antoniadi is a large lunar impact crater that lies on the southern hemisphere on the far side of the Moon. The crater intrudes into the southeastern rim of the crater Minnaert, a slightly smaller formation that is significantly more eroded. Attached to the eastern rim of Antoniadi is Numerov, another large, ancient crater similar to Minnaert. Due south of Antoniadi is the small crater Brashear. Geography The outer rim of Antoniadi is generally circular, with an irregular edge that has multiple indentations all about the perimeter. The wall is only lightly eroded, and retains a crisp rim and terracing on the inner walls. Only a single small craterlet of note lies across the interior wall, near the southeast edge of the rim. Antoniadi is one of the few craters on the Moon that possesses both a second inner ring and a central peak. This inner ring formation is about half the diameter of the outer wall, and only rugged mountain segments of the ring to the north and south still r ... Antoniadi (Martian Crater)
Antoniadi is a crater on Syrtis Major Planum in the Syrtis Major quadrangle, Mars, located at 21.5° north latitude and 299.2° west longitude. It is long and was named after Eugène Michael Antoniadi, a Greek astronomer (1870-1944) who spent most of his life in France. There is evidence that Antoniadi Crater once contained rivers and lakes. The picture below shows an inverted channel in Antoniadi, as seen by HiRISE. Inverted channels formed from accumulated sediments that were cemented by minerals. These channels eroded into the surface, then the whole area was covered over with sediments. When the sediments were later eroded away, the place where the river channel existed remained because the hardened material were resistant to erosion. Inverted relief Some places on Mars show inverted relief. In these locations, a stream bed may be a raised feature, instead of a valley. The inverted former stream channels may be caused by the deposition of large rocks or due to cementat ... Antoniadi Scale
The Antoniadi scale is a system used by amateur astronomers to categorise the weather conditions when viewing the stars at night. Invention The Antoniadi scale was invented by Eugène Antoniadi, a Greek astronomer, who lived from 1870 to 1944. Living most of his life in France, he spent his time viewing Mars from Camille Flammarion's observatory. He was very prestigious and was eventually given access to the Meudon Observatory, the largest of the time. Current usage Now the scale considered as the metric system of astronomical seeing, being used as a default measurement all over the world. Until recently in 2018, astronomers have been debating whether a new system with more categories is necessary. Description The scale is a five-point system, with 1 being the best seeing conditions and 5 being the worst. The actual definitions are as follows: # (I.) Perfect seeing, without a quiver. # (II.) Slight quivering of the image with moments of calm lasting several seconds. # (I ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Antoniadi Dorsum
Antoniadi Dorsum is a ridge on Mercury at , and it is approximately 359 km in length. In 1976, it was named by the International Astronomical Union after Eugène Michel Antoniadi. Antoniadi Dorsum cuts across the crater Geddes. The same trend of ridges continues to the north, where it is called Endeavour Rupes near the crater Holbein, and beyond that it is called Victoria Rupes, which cuts across the crater Enheduanna Enheduanna ( sux, , also transliterated as , , or variants) was the priestess of the moon god Nanna (Sīn) in the Sumerian city-state of Ur in the reign of her father, Sargon of Akkad.
