American Mathematical Association Of Two-Year Colleges
The American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) is an organization dedicated to the improvement of education in the first two years of college mathematics in the United States and Canada. AMATYC hosts an annual conference, summer institutes, workshops and mentoring for teachers in and outside math, and a semiannual math competition. AMATYC publishes one refereed journal, ''MathAMATYC Educator,'' and issues position statements on matters of mathematics education. The math competition is held in spring and fall semester each year and is limited to problems in precalculus. Only students enrolled in two-year colleges are eligible to participate. Only students who haven't received any degree/diploma, including within or outside of the U.S, can enter the competition. AMATYC was founded in 1974. Its office is at Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis, Tennessee. AMATYC is divided into eight regions: Central, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast, Northwest, ... Math Competition
Mathematics competitions or mathematical olympiads are competitive events where participants complete a math test. These tests may require multiple choice or numeric answers, or a detailed written solution or proof. International mathematics competitions * Championnat International de Jeux Mathématiques et Logiques — for all ages, mainly for French-speaking countries, but participation is not limited by language. * China Girls Mathematical Olympiad (CGMO) — held annually for teams of girls representing different regions within China and a few other countries. * European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) — since April 2012 * Integration Bee — competition in integral calculus held in various institutions of higher learning in the United States and some other countries * International Mathematical Modeling Challenge — team contest for high school students * International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) — the oldest international Olympiad, occurring annually since 1959. ... Precalculus
In mathematics education, precalculus is a course, or a set of courses, that includes algebra and trigonometry at a level that is designed to prepare students for the study of calculus, thus the name precalculus. Schools often distinguish between algebra and trigonometry as two separate parts of the coursework. Concept For students to succeed at finding the derivatives and antiderivatives with calculus, they will need facility with algebraic expressions, particularly in modification and transformation of such expressions. Leonhard Euler wrote the first precalculus book in 1748 called ''Introductio in analysin infinitorum'' (Latin: Introduction to the Analysis of the Infinite), which "was meant as a survey of concepts and methods in analysis and analytic geometry preliminary to the study of differential and integral calculus." He began with the fundamental concepts of variables and functions. His innovation is noted for its use of exponentiation to introduce the transcendent ... The term usually refers to a higher educational institution that provides workforce education and college transfer academic programs. Some institutions maintain athletic teams and dormitories similar to their university counterparts. Australia In Australia, the term "community college" refers to small private businesses running short (e.g. six weeks) courses generally of a self-improvement or hobbyist nature. Equivalent to the American notion of community colleges are Technical and Further Education colleges or TAFEs; these are institutions regulated mostly at state and territory level.
