Albertine (Krohg Novel)
''Albertine'' is a novel written in 1886 by Norwegian painter and writer Christian Krohg. The novel is set in Norway's capital, Oslo, Christiania, and deals with the life of the unmarried seamstress Albertine, who is eventually forced into prostitution due to the social system of the time. The book was confiscated shortly after its publication. In 1888 the Supreme Court of Norway upheld the confiscation, and Krohg was sentenced to pay a fine of . Krohg also made several paintings based on the "Albertine" motif, including ''Trett'' in 1885 and ''Albertine i politilægens venteværelse'' in 1887. Plot Albertine is a poor seamstress, living in the eastern part of Christiania. She is being seduced by a "Winther", a police officer, who eventually rapes her while she is unconscious. Viv Albertine
Viviane Katrina Louise Albertine (born 1 December 1954) is an Australian-born English musician, singer, songwriter and writer. She is best known as the guitarist for the punk band the Slits from 1977 until 1982, with whom she recorded two studio albums. Prior to joining the Slits, Albertine was a member of the Flowers of Romance. Following the Slits' break-up in 1982, Albertine studied filmmaking and subsequently worked as a freelance director for the BBC and British Film Institute. The Albertine Brothers are a Catholic congregation of Religious Brothers of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis, called the Servants of the Poor. The Albertine Rift is the western branch of the East African Rift, covering parts of Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania. Albertine Zullo (born 1967), known simply as Albertine, is a Swiss illustrator. She specializes in illustrating children's literature, children's books, many of which have been published in English. Since 1996, she has taught screen printing at the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD). Zullo was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Award for illustrator in 2020. ''Albertine in the Police Doctor's Waiting-Room'' is regarded as Krohg's principal work as a social painter. The painting touched upon the taboo subject of sexual life, and led to a heated debate among his contemporaries. Albertine Sarrazin (17 September 1937 – 10 July 1967) was a French author. She was best known for her semi-autobiographical novel ''L'Astragale''. Life and career Albertine was born on 17 September 1937 in Algiers, French North Africa. Her teenaged Spanish mother abandoned her and left her with the Welfare Office, where officials named her Albertine Damien in honour of the saint of the day she was found on. At the age of 2 she was adopted by a French army physician and his wife who renamed her Anne-Marie. Following the family's move to Aix-en-Provence in 1947, she was raped by a male relative.
