2017 Pro-jallikattu Protests
The 2017 pro-jallikattu protests, also known as the pro-jallikattu movement, were leaderless apolitical youth protests which took place in January 2017 in large groups in several locations across the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Some sporadic smaller protests also took place across India as well as overseas. The chief motivation of the protest was against the Supreme Court's order to ban jallikattu (occasionally also known as ''sallikattu'', ''eru taluval and'' ''manju virattu''), a traditional Tamil bull taming sport, which is held during Pongal, a harvest festival in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The sport is conducted annually on the second day of the Tamil month Thai. Jallikattu
Jallikattu (or Sallikkattu), also known as Eru Taḻuvuṭal and Manju-virattu, is a traditional event in which a zebu bull ('' Bos indicus''), such as the Pulikulam or Kangayam breeds, is released into a crowd of people, and many people attempt to grab the large hump on the bull's back with both arms and hang on to it while the bull attempts to escape. They hold the hump for as long as possible, attempting to bring the bull to a stop. In some cases, they must ride long enough to remove flags on the bull's horns or cross a finish line. Kumbakarai Falls
Kumbakkarai Falls are lesser known falls in the foothills of the Kodaikanal Hills. They are located at in Theni district, from Periyakulam. Kumbakkarai Falls are located along the Kodai-Vellagavi-Periyakulam footpath. These falls have two stages. At the first stage, water collects in huge rock recesses which are each named after wild animals such as tiger, elephant, snake etc. The Pambar river then flows to the second stage before falling as the main waterfall. The water originates in Kodaikanal Hills and flows along the rocks and finally reaches the foot hills. This place is called Kumbakarai. The travellers come here and take bath in the falls. Vaigai Dam
The Vaigai Dam is built across the Vaigai River near Andipatti, in the Theni district (Madurai district, before British India) of Tamil Nadu, South India. Near the dam, the Government of Tamil Nadu has constructed an Agricultural Research Station to research the cultivation of various crops, including rice, sorghum, black gram, cowpea and cotton. Kutladampatti Falls is a waterfall located in the village of Kutladampatti near Vadipatti in Madurai district about northwest of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. Alagar Kovil or "Azhagar Kovil" is a temple village in Madurai district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The history and living of the village is centered around Kallazhagar Temple.
