Abdullah bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani (; born 9 February 1988 in Doha) is the Deputy Emir of Qatar and unofficial heir presumptive to the Emir of Qatar. Early life and education Sheikh Abdullah is a son of the former Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Sheikha Noora bint Khalid Al Thani, his third wife. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in 2010. On 11 November 2014, Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani appointed his younger half-brother Abdullah to the post of Deputy Emir, unofficially making him heir to the throne of Qatar. Emir Tamim is one day expected to appoint one of his own sons as crown prince. Personal life Sheikh Abdullah married Sheikha Al Maha bint Muhammad Al Attiyah at Al Wajbah Palace on 22 March 2012. Al Thani
The House of Thani () is the ruling family of Qatar, with origins tracing back to the Adnanites, Adnanite Banu Tamim tribe. Today Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his mother Moza bint Nasser, Moza bint Nassir lead the house. History and structure The Al Thani family can be traced back to Mudar ibn Nizar, a claimed descendant of the Biblical figure Ishmael. The tribe moved from the Najdi town of Ushaiger and settled at the Gebrin oasis in southern Najd (present-day Saudi Arabia) before they moved to Qatar. Around the 17th century, the tribe lived in Ushaiger, a settlement north-west of Riyadh. They settled in Qatar around the 1720s. Their first settlement in Qatar was in the southern town of Sikak, and from there they moved north-west to Zubarah and Al Ruwais. Hamad bin Abdullah bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani (; 1896 – 27 May 1948) was Crown Prince of Qatar. Sheikh Hamad was the second son of the second emir of Qatar, Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, and also the father of the fifth emir of Qatar, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. Life He was born in Doha and educated privately at the palace. In 1935, he was made heir apparent by his father and served as deputy ruler on several times. Early on in his childhood, his father exposed him in to the life of a politician. He was expected to become the next emir, but he died whilst his father was still alive. The Amiri Diwan of the State of Qatar is the sovereign body and the administrative office and official workplace of the Amir of the State of Qatar.
