7th Congress Of The Workers' Party Of Korea
The 7th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), the ruling party of North Korea, was held on 6–9 May 2016. Background The 7th Congress was the first Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea held since the 6th Congress in 1980. In 2010 the party rules stipulation that Congresses be held every five years was dropped, recognising this had been ignored for thirty years. The purpose of the Congress was to review the party's work from the time period since the 6th Congress, but also to instill public loyalty toward the leadership of the country. April 25 House Of Culture
The April 25 House of Culture is a theatre located in Pyongyang, North Korea. It was built in 1974–1975 to provide a venue for military education, and was originally called the February 8 House of Culture. It is located on Pipha Street in the Moranbong District of Pyongyang. The classically colonnaded building is considered one of the best examples of 1970s socialist monumentality in North Korea, the other being the visually similar Mansudae Art Theatre. It has been the location of many historic events, from the 6th, 7th, and 8th congresses of the Korean Workers' Party, to the historic meeting of Kim Jong-il with the president of South Korea, Roh Moo-hyun, in 2007. Pak Myong-sun
Pak Myong-sun () is a North Korean politician. She is the director of a Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) department (possibly the Light Industry Department) and a member of the WPK Politburo. She is the only female head of a party department and one of only two female Politburo members. Biography She made her public appearance along with Kim Jong-un at the September 2010 Party Representative Conference when she was elected to the First Deputy Chair of the WPK Central Auditing Commission. In December 2011 she was a member of the commission which organized the state funeral of Kim Jong-il. In October 2013 she was appointed to WPK Central Committee vice director. Kim Il-sung (; , ; born Kim Song-ju, ; 15 April 1912 – 8 July 1994) was a North Korean politician and the founder of North Korea, which he ruled from the country's establishment in 1948 until his death in 1994. 6th Central Committee Of The Workers' Party Of Korea
The 6th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea was elected by the 6th Congress on 14 October 1980, and remained in session until the election of the 7th Central Committee on 9 May 2016. The Central Committee composition was replenished by the 3rd WPK Conference. In between party congresses and specially convened conferences the Central Committee is the highest decision-making institution in the WPK and North Korea. The Central Committee is not a permanent institution and delegates day-to-day work to elected bodies, such as the Presidium, the Politburo, the Secretariat, the Central Military Commission and the Control Commission in the case of the 6th Central Committee. It convenes meetings, known as "Plenary Session of the ermCentral Committee", to discuss major policies. Kwangmyongsong-4 () or KMS-4 is a reconnaissance satellite launched by North Korea on 7 February 2016. The launch happened after North Korea conducted a nuclear test on 6 January and as the United Nations Security Council was deciding on sanctions to be placed on the country following the nuclear test. The launch was also timed to celebrate the 74th birthday of the late leader Kim Jong-il on February 16.
