718th Intelligence Squadron
The 718th Intelligence Squadron (718 IS) is a United States Air Force Reserve intelligence unit. It is assigned to the 755th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group and stationed at Joint Base Langley–Eustis, Virginia. It was activated on 7 June 2011 and at the time assigned to the 940th Operations Group at Beale Air Force Base, California. The squadron was first activated as the 718th Bombardment Squadron in May 1943. After training in the United States, the squadron deployed to the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, where it participated in the strategic bombing campaign against Germany. The squadron was awarded two Distinguished Unit Citations for its actions during the war. Following V-E Day, the 718th returned to the United States and trained with Boeing B-29 Superfortresses, becoming one of the first bomber units in Strategic Air Command (SAC).
