3rd Tactical Squadron
The 3rd Tactical Squadron (known as 3.ELT - 3 Eskadra Lotnictwa Taktycznego in Poland) was a fighter squadron of the Polish Air Force established in 2001 in Poznań, Poland. The squadron was stationed in the 31st Air Base and has acquired F-16 C/D Block 52+ Adv. fighters. From 1954 to 2001 the unit was known as "3. Pułk Lotnictwa Myśliwskiego". In 2008 the unit was fused with the 6th Tactical Squadron and the 31st Air Base. Those three units were transformed into 31st Tactical Air Base unit. The 3rd Tactical Fighter Squadron () is a squadron of the 7th Air Wing of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) based at Hyakuri Air Base, in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. It is equipped with Mitsubishi F-2 and Kawasaki T-4 aircraft. The 3rd Airlift Squadron is an active unit of the United States Air Force, assigned to the 436th Airlift Wing, Air Mobility Command. It is based at Dover Air Force Base near Dover, Delaware. The squadron operates Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft supporting the United States Air Force global reach mission worldwide. History World War II The squadron goes back to the days of World War II when it was activated at Pope Field, North Carolina, in March 1942, as the 3rd Air Corps Ferrying Squadron. Two months later, the 3rd moved to India, where it was stationed at Chabua Airfield, Upper Assam, India. The 3rd Flying Training Squadron is part of the 71st Operations Group under the 71st Flying Training Wing. It operates the T-1A Jayhawk aircraft conducting advanced phase tanker/transport flight training. The 3rd FTS is the third-oldest squadron in the Air Force, with over 95 years of service to the nation, its origins date to the organization of the 3rd Aero Squadron on 1 November 1916 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Deployed to the Philippines after World War I, during the 1941-1942 Battle of the Philippines, it was wiped out, with some of its personnel being forced by the Japanese to endure the Bataan Death March. The 3rd Combat Weather Squadron (3 CWS) is a unit of the United States Air Force. It was formed at Barksdale Field (now Barksdale Air Force Base), Louisiana, on 24 June 1937, as part of the Signal Corps. The 3rd was one of three original squadrons that eventually transferred from the Signal Corps to the Air Corps. Currently located at West Fort Hood, the 3rd Combat Weather Squadron is aligned under the 3rd Air Support Operations Group. Weather support to Fort Hood began in 1947 at the newly constructed Killeen AFB.
