2022 New York's 19th Congressional District Special Election
The 2022 New York's 19th congressional district special election was a special election held on August 23, 2022. The seat became vacant after incumbent Democratic representative Antonio Delgado resigned on May 25, 2022, to become lieutenant governor of New York. Democratic nominee Pat Ryan won a slight victory over Republican nominee Marc Molinaro in what was seen as an upset due to Molinaro's lead in polls and fundraising in the weeks leading to the election. Patrick Kevin Ryan (born March 28, 1982) is an American businessman and Democratic politician serving as the U.S. representative for since 2022. He previously served as the county executive of Ulster County, New York. Early life and career Ryan was born and raised in Kingston, New York, the son of Patricia L. and Kevin M. Ryan. He earned a Bachelor of Science in international politics from the United States Military Academy and a Master of Arts in security studies from Georgetown University. His wife is Rebecca Ryan (née Grusky). He was previously married and divorced. Ryan served in the United States Army as a combat intelligence officer from 2004 to 2009, including two tours in Iraq. Antonio Delgado (politician)
Antonio Ramon Delgado (born January 28, 1977) is an American attorney and politician serving as the lieutenant governor of New York since 2022. He previously served as the U.S. representative from New York's 19th congressional district. He is the first person of either African–American or Latino descent to be elected to Congress from Upstate New York. On May 3, 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that she had appointed Delgado to serve as lieutenant governor, after Brian Benjamin resigned; Delgado was sworn in on May 25, 2022. Kathleen Hochul ( ; née Courtney; born August 27, 1958) is an American politician serving as the 57th governor of New York since August 24, 2021. Sean Patrick Maloney (born July 30, 1966) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the U.S. representative from from 2013 to 2023. The district includes Newburgh, Beacon, and Poughkeepsie. 2018 New York Gubernatorial Election
The 2018 New York gubernatorial election occurred on November 6, 2018. Incumbent Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo won re-election to a third term, defeating Republican Marc Molinaro and several minor party candidates. Cuomo received 59.6% of the vote to Molinaro's 36.2%. Cuomo defeated actress and activist Cynthia Nixon in the Democratic gubernatorial primary.
