2019 Calder Cup Playoffs
The 2019 Calder Cup playoffs of the American Hockey League began on April 17, 2019 with the playoff format that was introduced in 2016. The sixteen teams that qualified, four from each division, play a best-of-five series in the division semifinals, with the playoffs continuing with best-of-seven series for the division finals, conference finals, and Calder Cup finals. The playoffs ended with the Charlotte Checkers winning their first Calder Cup in franchise history, defeating the Chicago Wolves in five games in the Calder Cup Finals. Playoff seeds After the 2018–19 AHL regular season, 16 teams qualify for the playoffs. The top four teams in each division ranked by points qualify for the 2019 Calder Cup playoffs. Charlotte Checkers
The Charlotte Checkers are a minor-league professional ice hockey team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. They are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference in the American Hockey League (AHL), and are the top minor league affiliate of the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Checkers play their home games at Bojangles' Coliseum. The current organization is the third team by this name; it succeeded a Checkers franchise that played in the ECHL from 1993 until the end of the 2009–10 ECHL season. Grand Rapids Griffins
The Grand Rapids Griffins are a professional hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and play home games at Van Andel Arena. They are the AHL affiliate to the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and are the 2013 and 2017 Calder Cup champions. Robert Sanguinetti (born February 29, 1988) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman who is currently playing with EHC München in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He previously played within the New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks organizations in the National Hockey League (NHL). Julien Gauthier (born October 15, 1997) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). Gauthier was drafted 21st overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He has previously played for the Hurricanes, New York Rangers and the Ottawa Senators. Tomáš Jurčo (born 28 December 1992) is a Slovak professional ice hockey right winger who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played for Kunlun Red Star of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Jordan Szwarz (born May 14, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing with Adler Mannheim in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). The Amica Mutual Pavilion (originally Providence Civic Center and formerly Dunkin' Donuts Center) is an indoor arena located in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. The Colorado Eagles are a professional minor league ice hockey team based in Loveland, Colorado. The Eagles play in the Pacific Division of the American Hockey League.
