2018 Speedway Of Nations
The 2018 Speedway of Nations was the first FIM Speedway of Nations. The competition consisted of two race-off events and a two-legged final. The event was won by Russia, who beat Great Britain in the Grand Final. It replaced the Speedway World Cup. Format The 2018 Speedway of Nations was a pairs event, with each nation being represented by two senior riders and one rider under the age of 21. Each meeting was staged over 21 heats with the scores from each rider added together to give a total for each nation. The two race-off events consisted of seven teams, with three qualifying for the final. The final, which included hosts Poland, was staged over two legs with the scores from each added together. The top scoring nation went straight through to the Grand Final, while the second and third placed nations competed in the final qualifier for the chance to reach the Grand Final. The Speedway of Nations is a speedway event for national teams, held each year in a different country. The first edition of the competition in the current format took place in 2018, replacing the Speedway World Cup on the international calendar. It was the first time an official FIM international pairs competition was staged since the World Pairs Championship ceased in 1993. Australia are the current champions after winning in 2022. Jason Kevin Doyle (born 6 October 1985) is an Australian motorcycle speedway rider. He became World Champion in 2017. He won the 2015 Australian Solo Championship. He has also won the South Australian Championship in 2014, and the Elite League Riders' Championship and the Master of Speedway meeting in Germany in 2015. Doyle is a member of the Australia national speedway team and represented his country in the Speedway World Cup. Craig William Cook (born 21 May 1987) is a British speedway rider. Career Born in Whitehaven, Cook's speedway career began in 2008. In 2009 Cook won the National League Riders Championship and three years later won the Premier League Riders' Championship. He rode for Peterborough Panthers in 2010. Tai Woffinden (born 10 August 1990) is a British speedway rider. He is a three-time World Champion (2013, 2015 and 2018). Early life Woffinden was born in Scunthorpe, the son of former speedway rider Rob Woffinden. Although born in the United Kingdom and competing as a British rider, Woffinden grew up in Perth, Western Australia after his parents Rob and Sue decided to move there in 1994. Antonio Lindbäck (born 5 May 1985 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider who competed in the Speedway World Championship, finishing eighth in 2016, and was a member of the Swedish team who won the Speedway World Cup in 2004 and 2015. Jan Fredrik Tobias (Freddie) Lindgren (born 15 September 1985) is a Swedish motorcycle speedway rider.
