2017 Pembrokeshire County Council Election
An election to Pembrokeshire County Council was held on 4 May 2017 as part of wider local elections across 2017 Welsh local elections, Wales. The election was preceded by the 2012 Pembrokeshire County Council election, 2012 election. It will be followed by the 2022 Pembrokeshire County Council election, 2022 election. Twelve seats (out of the sixty available) had candidates elected unopposed. Ward results Nominations closed on 4 April 2017. 2017 Welsh Local Elections
The 2017 Welsh local elections were held on 4 May 2017 to elect members of all 22 local authorities in Wales. This included the Isle of Anglesey, which was previously up for election in 2013 due to having its elections delayed for a year. Community council elections also took place on the same day. These local elections were held as part of the 2017 local elections in the United Kingdom. Apart from Anglesey, the last elections were held in 2012. Normally these elections take place every four years, but the 2017 elections were postponed for a year in order to avoid clashing with the 2016 Welsh Assembly election, which itself had been postponed by a year to avoid clashing with the 2015 general election. Welsh Labour incurred a net loss of 112 council seats, losing control control of the Blaenau Gwent, Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend councils. Milford Hakin
Milford Hakin is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the Hakin area of the Milford Haven community, to the west of Milford Haven Docks. It elects a councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council and three councillors to Milford Haven Town Council. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 2,239 (with 1,817 of voting age). Prior to 1996 the ward for elections to Dyfed County Council was simply called Hakin. St David's (Pembrokeshire Electoral Ward)
St David's is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the small city of St Davids and the ward's boundaries are coterminous with those of the community of St Davids and the Cathedral Close. The ward elects a councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council. St Davids also elects twelve community councillors to St Davids City Council. Pembroke Dock Llanion was the name of a county electoral ward in the town of Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Llanion remains as a ward for elections to Pembroke Dock Town Council. Pembroke St Mary South
Pembroke St Mary South was the name of an electoral ward in the town of Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the area including the town centre and Pembroke Castle and the town immediately to the west of St Daniel's Hill. The ward elected a county councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council and three town councillors to Pembroke Town Council. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 1,434. A boundary review took place in 2019, where it was noted that the number of eligible voters was 33% below the average for an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire. As a result it was recommended that part of the neighbouring St Michael ward was transferred to the St Mary South ward, increasing the number of electors by 531. Pembroke St Mary North
Pembroke St Mary North is the name of an electoral ward in the town of Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the area of the town north of the Pembroke River and the Mill Pond. The ward elects a county councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council and four town councillors to Pembroke Town Council. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 2,060. In July 2018 the sitting county councillor, David 'Dai' Boswell, was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison for rape and indecent assault. Narberth is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Since 1995 it has elected one councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council. The current Narberth county ward covers the immediate built-up area of the town of Narberth, matching the boundaries of the town/community ward of Narberth Urban. The remainder of the Narberth community (encircling the town) together with the Templeton community forms the Narberth Rural ward. Milford West is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the area of the town of Milford Haven immediately east of Milford Haven railway station and Hubberston Pill. Milford Central is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the central area of the town of Milford Haven including Pill and Milford Haven Docks. It elects a county councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council and three town councillors to Milford Haven Town Council. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 2,003 (with 1,658 of voting age). County elections At the May 2017 county election the sitting former Plaid Cymru councillor Stephen Joseph successfully defended his seat but by only 3 votes. At the 2012 county election the long-standing independent councillor Anne Hughes lost her seat on Pembrokeshire County Council to the Plaid Cymru candidate. 2012 Pembrokeshire County Council Election
The fifth election to Pembrokeshire County Council was held on 3 May 2012. It was preceded by the 2008 election and followed by the 2017 election. On the same day there were elections to 20 of the other 21 local authorities in Wales (all except Anglesey), community council elections in Wales and other elections elsewhere in the United Kingdom All 60 council seats were up for election. The previous council was controlled by Independents as had been the case since the authority was formed in 1995. The Independents retained control in 2012. Councillors elected in this election are to serve an extended five-year term, after the Welsh Government announced the next elections would be moved from 2016 to 2017 to avoid clashing with the next Welsh Assembly election in 2016 (which in turn had been delayed a year to avoid clashing with the next general election). Maenclochog is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the Maenclochog community and the two neighbouring communities of Llandissilio West and Clynderwen. The Maenclochog ward elects a councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council. According to the UK 2011 Census the population of the Maenclochog ward was 3,104 (with 2,443 of these over 18 years of age). Haverfordwest Priory is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the southern edge of the town of Haverfordwest, mostly west of the river but including Haverfordwest railway station at its eastern extreme, the Haverfordwest Priory from which it takes its name and the residential areas bounded by Freeman's Way and surrounding the Pembrokeshire College campus.
