2017 Ole Miss Rebels Football Team
The 2017 Ole Miss Rebels football team represented the University of Mississippi in the 2017 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Rebels played their home games at Vaught–Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi and competed in the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). They were led by then-interim head coach Matt Luke. They finished the season 6–6, 3–5 in SEC play to finish in sixth place in the Western Division. On February 22, 2017, the University of Mississippi self-imposed a one-year ban from post-season play on the Ole Miss football team for the 2017 season, due to alleged NCAA violations. On July 20, 2017, head coach Hugh Freeze resigned in the wake of allegations about repeated calls to a female escort service from his school-issued cell phone. Matt Luke (American Football)
Matthew Barham Luke (born October 29, 1976) is an American football coach and former player who, most recently served as the associate head coach and offensive line coach at the University of Georgia. Luke was fired from his previous job as the head coach at the University of Mississippi after amassing a 15–21 record over three seasons. Playing career Luke was born in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was a standout at Gulfport High School, but he was a walk-on at Ole Miss, where scholarships were limited because of NCAA sanctions. He played center there from 1995 to 1998, graduating in 2000. His father, Tommy Luke, played defensive back at Ole Miss in the 1960s while his older brother, Tom Luke, played quarterback there from 1989 to 1991. Shea Patterson
Shea Christopher Patterson (born January 17, 1997) is an American football quarterback for the New Orleans Breakers of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines (2018–2019) and the Ole Miss Rebels (2016–2017). He was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He was drafted in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft by the Texas Rangers and they retain his rights until 2024. The Michigan Panthers drafted Patterson with the first pick in the 2022 USFL Draft. Riverdale High School is a public secondary school in Jefferson, unincorporated Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is a part of the Jefferson Parish Public Schools. Riverdale's attendance boundary includes several communities. They are Jefferson, Harahan, Elmwood, and River Ridge. In addition the school serves portions of Metairie. DeMarquis Larenz Gates (born March 7, 1996) is an American football linebacker for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Ole Miss Rebels. Early years Gates attended Lovejoy High School in Hampton, Georgia. As a junior at Lovejoy, Gates made 132 tackles and was named All-Region. He missed his senior season with a torn ACL. Myles Hartsfield (born August 5, 1997) is an American football safety who is a free agent. He played college football at Ole Miss. Early life and high school Hartsfield grew up in Sayreville, New Jersey and attended Sayreville War Memorial High School, where he played football and was a triple jumper on the track team.
