2014 Algerian Air Force C-130 Crash
On 11 February 2014, a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft of the Algerian Air Force, carrying 74 passengers and 4 crew members, crashed into Djebel Fertas mountain near Aïn Kercha, Algeria. Only one person survived. Preliminary reports suggest that bad weather conditions might have caused the crash. The accident is under investigation. On 11 April 2018, an Ilyushin Il-76 military transport aircraft of the Algerian Air Force crashed shortly after take-off from Boufarik Airport, Boufarik, Algeria, which is near Blida and south-west of the capital, Algiers. 2012 Norwegian C-130 Crash
On 15 March 2012, a C-130J Super Hercules military transport aircraft of the Royal Norwegian Air Force ( no, Luftforsvaret) crashed into the western face of Mount Kebnekaise near Kiruna, Sweden. All five people on board were killed. Swedish air traffic control had given the crew a clearance that placed them outside controlled airspace and below the altitude of the surrounding terrain, a circumstance that went unnoticed to the crew. Contributing to the accident was the pilots' decision to configure the aircraft in tactical mode, despite not conducting a tactical operation.
