2011–12 Miami Hurricanes Men's Basketball Team
The 2011–12 Miami Hurricanes men's basketball team represented the University of Miami during the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Hurricanes, led by first year head coach Jim Larrañaga, played their home games at the BankUnited Center and were members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They finished the season 20–13 overall, 9–7 in ACC play to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place. They defeated Georgia Tech in the first round of the ACC tournament before falling to Florida State in the quarterfinals. They were invited to the National Invitation Tournament where they defeated Valparaiso in the first round before falling to Minnesota in the second round. Jim Larrañaga
James Joseph Larrañaga ( ; born October 2, 1949) is the head men's basketball coach for the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. He has held this position since 2011. Before joining the University of Miami, he served as the head men's basketball coach at American International College from 1977 to 1979, Bowling Green State University from 1986 to 1997, and George Mason University from 1997 to 2011, where he coached the Patriots to 13 consecutive winning seasons and became a media sensation during the Patriots' improbable run to the Final Four of the 2006 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament.
