2009 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Grand Champions Cup
The 2009 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Grand Champions Cup was held in Osaka and Nagoya, Japan from 18 to 23 November 2009. Qualification Competition formula The competition formula of the 2009 Men's World Grand Champions Cup was the single Round-Robin system. Each team plays once against each of the 5 remaining teams. Points were accumulated during the whole tournament, and the final standing was determined by the total points gained. Robertlandy Simón
Robertlandy Simón Aties (born 11 June 1987) is a Cuban volleyball player, a member of Cuba men's national volleyball team from 2005–2010 and from 2019 to present day and also Italian club Cucine Lube Civitanova, 2009 NORCECA Champion, silver medalist of the 2010 World Championship, double South Korean Champion (2015, 2016). Career Simón debuted in the national team at age of 17. He was Cuban national team captain for 5 years. In 2009 he achieved individual awards at 2009 World Grand Champions Cup. In 2010 Cuba, including Simon, went to the finale of 2010 World Championship with Brazil. On October 10, 2010 he achieved silver medal. He was Best Blocker of the tournament. Simon was champion of the Italian Cup 2013/14 and of the Challenge Cup 2012/13 with Piacenza. FIVB Volleyball Men's World Grand Champions Cup
The FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup is an international volleyball competition contested by the senior men's and women's national teams of the members of ' (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The tournament was created in 1993 after radical changes made on the biggest tournaments organised by the FIVB. The main goal was not to have a single year without two high-profile world-level volleyball competitions, alongside the pre-existing men's and women's world championship, men's and women's world cup and the volleyball tournament at the Olympic Games which are all quadrennial and the annual men's and women's Nations League. The World Grand Champions Cup is therefore played quadrennially the year after the Olympic Games and is always hosted by the Japan Volleyball Association. Kunihiro Shimizu (清水邦広 ''Shimizu Kunihiro'', born August 11, 1986) is a Japanese volleyball player who plays for Panasonic Panthers. He announced retirement from the national team after finishing seventh place in 2020 Summer Olympics. Shimizu was crowned the Most Valuable Player in Asian Championship 2015. Bernardo Rocha de Rezende (born 25 August 1959), known as Bernardo Rezende and nicknamed Bernardinho, is a Brazilian volleyball coach and former player. He is the current coach of the female volleyball team Rio de Janeiro Vôlei Clube. Rezende is the most successful coach in the history of volleyball, accumulating more than 30 major titles in twenty-year career directing the Brazilian male and female teams.
